David Aiken 253
I`ve always used Eley Subs, has anyone used their `high velocity`? http://www.eley.co.uk/eley-subsonic-hollow http://www.eley.co.uk/eley-high-velocity-hollow Quote Link to post
David Aiken 253
According to http://www.shooterscalculator.com/point-blank-range.php the high velocity would increase the PBR from 70 yds for subs to yrd with a 2" target. A very usable extra 30 feet! Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Its a bit like the .177 vs .22 air rifle argument, except oviously in this case the flatter flying faster round carries more energy, personally I dont see the point of hv .22 the trade off of noise for a little bit more power/range is not worth it, if you want more grunt, get the excellent .22 wmr. 2 Quote Link to post

I would, but the land isn't cleared for anything other than .22lr Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
HV are shit - period. Stick with the subs within their effective range, eley subs are the most accurate subsonic round on the market IMO. 2 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
I've never been a great fan of .22lr HV, but in the early days needs must. Back then I found the Magtech Subs excellent in mine, and the Remington Yellow Jacket HP a useful HV, the CCI Velocitor had its moments too, but it was always difficult to chamber. Don't get too wrapped up in a manufacturer, I have tried a vast amount of what's on the market, and just because your rifle likes one type of ammo from XY or Z manufacturer it doesn't mean it will like another. These days both my .22lr are dedicated Sub tools, if I need more I use my HMR or WMR. 2 Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
HV's are noisy. My friend and I shot on a very large hilly estate with his .22LR some time ago. With subs, the gun was quieter than my moderated air rifle. With HV's the crack from the rifle echoed back off hills several miles away. It was probably more noticeable because it was at night, but the sound literally reverberated 3 or 4 times off adjacent hills. In my opinion, the extra few yds and the flatter trajectory simply aren't worth the loss of stealth. 1 Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
IMO the major asset of a R/F is the fact it can be moderated to be extremely quite, this is negated with the HV which I found to be an inaccurate round. If the land is passed for RF .22 most land I have the Police will clear also for .17HMR, and although I'm not a fan of the latter I would certainly have this over HV R/F Or as CC said WMR 1 Quote Link to post
