neil cooney 10,416
My favourite has to be the Big S plug purely because I caught my biggest pike on one, 15 lbs, small fry to some of you lads but I don't consider myself a piker. I was fishing with a friend and we were walking around Derry Lake in county Monaghan skipping each other as we fished every swim. My mate got a bit cheeky and started casting across me so as he walked by I went to the last swim he'd been in to leave two swims between us, to stop him poaching so to speak. I cast my Big S about 50 yards and as it bobbed back to the surface there was a swirl. I couldn't believe it, a pike from the surface and I had to fight him all the way (there's nothing worse than they taking your lure as you're about to lift it out of the water.) I bought that plug of Johnny Watts, who at the time had one of the only shooting and fishing shops in Dublin, if not Ireland and when I bought it old Johnny said to me "have this one, it's a male". I asked how did he know ? He shook the plug and said "do you hear that rattle, that's it balls." LOL. 7 Quote Link to post
jonnie bravo 572
The Shakespeare big S is well worthy of the lure hall of fame. They used to cost £2.50 when I was a bit younger, and they caught me loads off the canal. They had a mini S that was ideal for trout too. The Salmo jointed minnow in mackerel caught me a ton. Had a few windermere pike on it too. I had a toothy critter spinnerbait that caught me the most pike, it didn't half pull back on the retrieve though! 4 Quote Link to post

After not fishing there a few years I had a few hours wandering the Rodley area on a spur of the moment fishing trip with a big s and I caught nothing - no follows either. People walking past said it's been really poor over the last couple of years and not worth even bothering?! I dunno where all the pike have gone as catching 5 jacks on an afternoon used to be fairly normal. 1 Quote Link to post
jonnie bravo 572
Used to go from the fishermans in Bingley all the way to dockfield, same as you I would expect a few jacks atleast with a good chance of a bigger fish, not done it for a while though now 1 Quote Link to post

tomburras 2,730
If you download an app called geek shopping and search fishing lures there's lots of mega cheap lures - admittedly most are pants but there's some real good mega cheap lures. There maybe a online geek shopping website too. Some are close to your faveroute patterns but they take a few weeks to arrive. Quote Link to post

Recently at a wedding I did my best mans speech and during it mentioned how he has always had good luck and brought up the time I took him lure fishing for his first time. I showed him how to set his rod up and tie his lure on etc and when I turned round to set my own up he shouted im in! I thaught after just one cast he was snagged but after turning round to look he was into one of the biggest canal pike I have ever seen, on his first cast. After a battle walking up and down the canal with it we guessed near 20 lbs. As a surprise for him I sent the pic to improve your course fishing and they put his pic in the magazine! He is a member on here too and called mattybugeye, and this fish was also caught on a red big s. 3 Quote Link to post

I always wanted my pic in a fishing mag as a kid All this talk of fishing has made me a bit nostalgic might have to crack out some old fishing pics and start a new thread! 1 Quote Link to post
