What a bizarre nation of sports fans we are.....David Haye is not a legitimate heavyweight in todays times yet is desperately trying to compete with far bigger men than himself in order to win the gre

Was it me or was that presenter a c**t

De Mori had a better record than Szpilka who Wilder just fought for the WBC belt,De Mori is better than anyone Wilder has faced as Champion with the only decent fighter on Wilders record being Stivern

Problem is Haye is damned if he does damned if he dont,

He's the best boxer in that division, but like said struggles against the sheer size of others,

He's goyt to come back and fight blokes who shouldn't be in the ring with him, but what choice has he, he needs a few fights to get going and I don't see Wilder, Fury or Aj falling over themselves to fight him yet, the momentum will grow, hopefully he'll get Wilder first and pick up a belt then some big British fight to unify the heavywheight belts... thats got to be great for British boxing.

Why would they be falling over to fight him what's he got to bring not like he's a champ holding belts

Anybody below him will be desperate to fight him......anybody above him will be desperate to avoid him.............its basic ranking manipulation.

Gnash I also said going rounds and having to tough it out when things are not going his way as well as taking shots. Like you just said we have seen Fury down a couple of times but he's got straight back up then stopped the opposing fighter. Remember when Bruno was thought to be the next big British fighter at 21-0 with 21 knockouts, then Bonecrusher came along and took Bruno further than he had ever been before, taking all his shots, then stopped him in the tenth that's the type of scenario I am thinking of. We have seen Fury down and up against it and he prevailed and we also know he can do 12 rounds all I'm saying is we don't know that about Joshua yet as he hasn't done 12 rounds and he has had it all his own way so far in his career.

Fury is a distance fighter Mick......he relies on staying out of trouble and using his reach so being able to go the rounds is far more essential to his game plan than it is to a fighter like Joshua,s .......accurate power punchers and ko artists dont want to go rounds the same as distance fighters dont want a tear up......yes in an ideal world we would like to think a fighter has it in his locker to get up off the canvas........but whether he can or cant wont make much difference to a fighter who is putting all his eggs in one basket to knock you out.......its not like it used to be when all fighters needed to be able to take a good punch, years ago it was important simply because it was guarenteed that even a distance fighters legs would slow down at some point and they would have to stand and trade but due to todays advances in conditioning fighters are doing the distance much easier and are able to use their legs for the full 12 rounds to stay on the outside so having a great chin is not as essential as it was....its far more important to be defensively sound and elusive than it is to have a cast iron jaw in todays game.

Sound like championship bouts need to be put back to 15 rounds again so that boxers will have to take a little more risk. Did the gloves used to be smaller say 30 years ago as well?

Middleweight and below use 8oz gloves.....above middleweight use 10oz.....its was the same in the 80,s......i think the last size change was in the 50,s or early 60,s when heavyweights used 8,s.....thumbless gloves came out in the 80,s and the overall design has changed a lot but the weights have stayed the same.

As regards 15 round fights i couldnt agree more....." heart " no longer plays a part as the fighters are too fit to require heart, when a fighter gets dropped early in a fight and comes back to win thats not showing heart its showing basic competetive desire.....if that same fighter gets knocked down in the 13th/14th/15th rounds and still gets up to win he is showing heart.......thats why they was always called " the championship rounds ".

It would also be fairer to bring the weigh ins back to the morning of the fight so there all on a level playing field,to many fighters know how to manipulate the early weigh ins to there advantage. The fighters weights are monitored now so no need for the weigh in the day before the fight,as an example Canelo weighs in at 155 the day before and fights the next day at 175-180+ . Another good thing would be to ban " catcwheights " for title fights, the title fights should all be fought at the correct weight for the division .

All I know is that for the first time since the likes eubank and Benn disappeared of the radar I'm interested in boxing again it's a exciting time for British boxing.. Let the games commence and may the best man win.

I agree.....

Of course it don't matter for heavyweights,,,although I think gnash is right with having a super heavyweight decision ...

Thing is the proper belts which are the wbc,wba and the ibf are not held by tyson.

He holds the wba super and the wbo.

Which in affect are Micheal mouse.

The other three officially recognised belts are held by three different champions.

Funny that ain't it

Pmsl

It's the other way round mufty

Fury beat a superchampion wilder beat a gifted paper champion on his first defence everyone knows Wvlad had the proper belts

The proper belts are the 3 main bodies in boxing.

They are WBC,WBA & IBF.

The others are Micheal mouse belts.

Everyone knows this including you crusty.

The number one belt has always been the WBC.

The other belts have come along recently and in most peoples eyes are Michael mouse belts or unrecognised belts.

Just simply stating this.

Nothing more and nothing less.
