tb25 4,627
Not something I have done a lot of.I couldent think of owt better that this type of sport. I may try braking my two to ferrits. Quote Link to post
C.green 3,229
I try and get out at least once a week with a ferret spade and dog. Got a fair bit to go at ferreting wise here plus in my opinion nothing better than watching a keen dog cover a bolt snap it up within yards then take there place back up on the warren. I got my pup working well with ferrets catching a couple of bolters every time out as said teaches them a lot can already see the penny dropping with marking and putting them to ground. Good way to build trust between dog and owner aswell if my old dog says no it means no it's just a waste of time setting nets. Edited January 11, 2016 by C.green Quote Link to post
rabbit demon 302
I do it the odd time. Dont really have the land suitable for doing it. The rabbits can make an escape fairly easy as the ground i hunt on is littered with warrens and the rabbits be out and in a hole and gone. Was ferreting the the other day with no nets for a bit and my bitch managed to get 3 out of 6 bolters. Quote Link to post
trigger2 3,137
its summat i dont really do as i am a lamper and my dog aint built for catching bolters. having said that i do enjoy the odd time my dog pics up a bolting rabbit on the very few occasions i go ferreting. Quote Link to post
green lurchers 16,619
How many of you do this regular these days ? In my humble opinion it is the sport of kings and maybe the only thing left that we can legally enjoy these days. Ferrets down, No nets and dogs left to do their thing.. Its poetry in motion when all the elements come together. great sport it is .the value of any rabbit run caught or missed by the dog far outweighs not having as many rabbits in the end of day pic from using nets/ and the ferrets still get their work and the shovel dont get used much 1 Quote Link to post

devon flighter 421
But I agree, it's the sport of kings 100% agree .im not a running dog owner and never have been but its what started me off in all hunting field sports "i was invited to go out with a mate of a mate ferreting ,no nets just a whippet x ,i can remember that day's events 37 years back like it was this morning ! " its what gave me an interest in all working dogs and literally hours of enjoyment since with dogs THE OLDER I GET THE MORE I WANT TO GO BACK and enjoy the naturalness of this type of sport !there really is nothing like watching a dog work along side us , unfortunately now ive got the time to do it health is holding me back or its the way i would be heading . 1 Quote Link to post
Trev70 5,185
Bolting is all about just getting the dogs the runs for me, if they get away they get away, if they get away down another set I leave that set for another day you know he's not going to bolt again when the dog's been hard on him and yes there could be more in the set but feck that digging if you can help it, that rabbit's another run for the dogs another day. 1 Quote Link to post

I love this man dearly,...I realy do,...but, whenever I see one of his 'bolting rabbits for the dogs, with no nets' posts,..I am so envious, that invariably, I feel,... physically fecking sick Inshalah,...one day soon,...we will catch a rabbit...
