king 11,972
When she won't come closer that 2 meters just turn your back to her.just stand still don't call her or make any noise pretend she isnt with you.she is playing a game with you the more you run after her or call her she is winning the game and is getting excited with it. When she realises she can't get your attention she will soon get bored and come close to you for affection. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I would personally knock lamping on the head for a bit and work on the recall in the day with no quarry about. Sit down and get her coming to you for a fuss. Give her a cuddle. Walk on a bit and do the same again. Get her to want to be with you. Then start leading her up periodically, just for a few seconds and then let her off again. So she gets to realise that the lead isn't all that bad. At the moment she sees coming to you as the end of the fun. We are going home or back to the motor. You need to change that mindset. I've done the above with both of mine from youngsters and never had an issue with recall day or night. 2 Quote Link to post

desertbred 5,490
Did you do plenty of fetch work in the garden at home when she was young ? go back to basics with her retrieving to you in the garden coming straight when you call her give her plenty of enthusiastic praise. Once she is doing the retrieve right ,when you take her out try to get her to carry a rabbit along side you on the slip praising her .When she catches she will then get the habit of retrieving to you. Dont get her in the frame of mind that you end all her f un taking game away and putting her on the slip, she needs to be shown repetetively its part of the job to go on the slip once she realises she gets off again to chase she will work things out herself. repetition and enjoyment are what youngster needs and don tconvey anger either in movements in the voice or even down the slip or you will be fighting a loosing battle patience and more patience 3 Quote Link to post

J Darcy 5,871
This is one of the examples why I don't start saluki lurchers at such a young age. I find that they take longer to mature and be 'bomb proof'. But I guess we all go about things different ways... 5 Quote Link to post
