saw a greyhound run 1200 metre marathon and win ,got a pup out of her she ran the same way ,a mile bitch but never saw another , d slieght owned the bitch he bred it with boy blue i had the pup tess , was a real staying dog , she just looked like a saluki greyhound but was pure bred , with both ears tattood , i dont no what 2 km is in meters but a good race for any dog ,i take it 1mile and qaurter is about 1800 metre be some greyhound to do that ,in the old days they would had had distance dogs who would course for three minutes but not in modern day coursing dutch salmon had a big greyhound fino who could do the four minutes on a course but thats the only two ive ever heard of in my time

My dad had pure grey over from Ireland in the late 80s bred from a Irish derby winner whose name I can't remember. This bitch was no speed merchant by greyhound standards but I can just remember her staying power was top drawer. I do think sometimes the greys stamina is rubbished when if fact some were real stayers, not saying they have saluki stamina but to say they all have none is daft.

The bitch I am talking about was worked by my old man and nyone who races greyhounds would say he ruined her. But she still won 34 fom 57 at a decent level and was still racing admittedly locally at nearly 7 year old. I can't remember how many Friday nights I watched her stood on an old milk crate looking above the crowd as a kid, she invariably got out slow but slowly pegged her way back and by the final bend was usually steaming through with no sign of fatigue. I genuinely believe she would have given plenty salukis a good run over 2km and based on what was hanging up in our coal shed on a regular basis she could stay a bit off the track atb
