it would be interesting to see what fish and wildlife is in it. i remember getting talking to an elderly chap a few years ago telling me that perch are the first fish to colonise waterways as their eggs survive better been carried by water birds than other fish species i don't know how true this is tho.

When I first got out army I got a bit of permission local here,same guy owns the racecourse which has a small lake in middle, I found a few half eaten decent sized tench on the banks and askd if I could fish it, nobody had done so for years, atleast to there knowledge. I fished it and caught some crackng fish and noticed a lot of perch. I started fishing it for perch and first day I caught 2 3lbers within an hour of each other, and a few more over next few weeks. Since then I been told to fish it I'll have to pay, group of lads have rented it and filled it with Carp and are wanting a few hundred quid a year, they can keep it. Sad tho as when I asked about the other fish they said they culled a lot to make room for carp ffs

 

Thats a shame! they should have left it how nature intended.

i grew up next to a few old mill ponds. at an old dye works. they where full of perch and roach. there was also a lot of newts and frogs.

nice little find.

Iv got to walk through the food factory in white wellies and hair net first though!

Theres a place in staines,its called 2 rivers,a shopping complex,theres no fishing signs everywhere,i walked over the bridge a few years ago to go the PC World from the car park,i always pause and look down into the water,its picturesque,i was looking in a pool at the side of the reeds when i suddenly realised i was looking at a huge pike,i sneaked on despite the security cameras a few weeks later at 4am and got an 11lb pike,tight lines on your pond.[/quote

I took two 5pound plus chub in a night there from the bridge nearest of world,there's a current that runs on the far bank that takes you right round the bend towards the pub,used to be a fish a chuck a few years ago!

Alright J,yes its deffo a productive tributary mate,i didnt realise there was barbel in,might have a go,i know that McDo's,glad you had a result with their chips,i have been down here too long,i call them fries nowadays,hahaha,be lucky and tight lines.

it may well be gnipper. there was swans ducks ans moorhens on it also. it was in Leyland Lancashire.

I know mate that's why I asked. If it's the one I'm thinking of it think I fished it a couple of years ago and caught a load of skimmers.

it was not mosside. it was a wooded area behind worden high school. it had a wall around the front. there was some smaller ponds behind it just behind a chapel. thats where we found most newts. i grew up playing in the woods and the derelict buildings. with a catty and home made bow and arrows.

The one I fished we parked by some houses and walked past a square tiled pond and fished a round one with a brick side. I can't remember the name of it but I think it was near a big school?
