jigsaw 11,866
thats very interesting thoughts mhopton, most of my places i try not to over hunt if possible,id say usually once a month max we'd walk the land, and yes on one or 2 spots we'd have certain ''favourite'' fields, proven in the past to hold the big bunnies,on 2 of the days I was on new land that I hadnt walked ever before but the lads into the harriers would hunt regularly I supose so that could be your answer.I am going to keep your points in mind next time and see if theres a difference, food for thought as they say.thanks for that 1 Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,866
Just one or two little questions the answers could be helpful for you . The land you run on how often do you go and do you park in the same place, without knowing your land or you for that matter it could be you've fallen into the trap" Some might say I'm talking bollocks but what I say is true, who believes anything about hunting must know changes too the way we hunt need to adapt , we all falter at times like your self at the moment struggling and not understanding what and why it's turned against you the quarry is there but can't seem to be able too get on it am I right / wrong. I bet you walked them fields and learned where you are going to get a run or not whichever way you are not going to relies that animals learn and adapt themselves. So it's my belief mate you've fallen for the woman's way of life by keeping the same routine , every time you get out I bet you go into auto pilot without realising it , simple fix mate is too change the way you approach and walk starting in different places where you wouldn't have before it worked for me just give it a try atb Mark ya cant stop it raining. lol, that is possibly the main reason im walking for nothing, but saying that my spots wouldnt be the best anyway, any runs are hard earned,I read of 3 out of 3 and 5 out of 5 and think jaysus im a lost cause lol Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
Thing is mate some of us tell the truth about how many or whatever we have cought some don't fact ! What made me stand back and look at the ways I walked round my permissions is I stood looking over the first gate and noticed right at the top of the field 3 rabbits were standing up on watch one ether side and one in middle then there ears sticking up out the grass as soon as I put one foot gate they were up looking at me as I climbed over they were on there way not just rabbits two little roe and a hare a spotted with the binoculars , coincidence well once naa but it seams the feckers are working together cos it's happening more and more now so I changed my root and came in the back way which seemed to work so from now on I never go the same way It's worth a try so is changing times you arrive Atb Mark Quote Link to post

Maximus Ferret 2,063
Things are starting to get like that in my daytime places now but I just put it down to time of the season and the game becoming educated. I've discovered a couple of new places that were good for a run the first couple of visits but then became a lot harder and I always think out approach and so on the night before. I usually look at wind direction on "windguru" then get up "Google earth" to plan my route so it usually differs from my last visit if possible. The rain has certainly had an effect on things. A couple of weeks ago I watched the big bitch work one out of a forestry block and run it for 100 metres or so before they went up a slope. On the flat the ground was so boggy they looked like they were running in slow motion! Earlier the same day I was unable to get to the bit I wanted to hunt because the stepping stones through a small river/stream were 9 inches under water. I considered walking through anyway as I had waterproof boots and leggings on but after watching both bitches get washed 20 yards down before they could get across I whistled them back and went elsewhere. On the upside the lamping trips have still been going well when I can be bothered. I've been getting more than I can eat and sell so been feeding a lot to the dogs to make space in the freezer. jigsaw 11,866
jesus its a bad day when a tourist is taking one of the locals to good hunting in his own country yeah give me a shout and we'll get something planned,a nice long walk lol.I hope you brought your umbrella cause its hammering down again ffs. as for fishing lol you will be standing 30 feet from the banks of the river out in the middle of the field, there might be a few trout in the puddles cause the speed of the river wont be any help when casting.
