jigsaw 11,866
was out Saturday,Sunday yesterday afternoon and, this morn, and boy am I failing miserably.I was out with the lurchers hoping for a run on the big rabbits on Saturday,we went to 2 different spots and on the 2cd place we found 2 to chase,5 hrs walking and 2 speedsters,The bitch got one turn into it and it just went straight into the woods,30 seconds all over, next one was a better prospect,300 yards from a woodland block, slipped the dog and to be truthfull he looked sadly lacking, just 20 yards before the trees he came to terms with the big bunny and both dissapeared over the bank into the trees, dog returned 2 minutes later, obviously after loosing the game in the darkness of the woodland. The dog looked rather sluggish but again saying that hes not to full fitness due to the 78 consecutive days of rain we just had,and the ground was like a slurry so im hoping hell improve if I can find runs for him. Sunday spent 4 hrs walking on fairly decent land, not 1 big bunny did I see.I walked every fekin field and nothing, pissed off wasnt the word.lol Tuesday went out with a hunting mate, brought me to big open land, was feeling very optimistic,we had one dog each, both of which I own,and we walked all over,3 hrs walking....not a sight of anything. We did see droppings in the grass and seats where they lay but another blank. This morning I rose at 6.30 down to a farm I recently got permission to shoot a deer or 2,Landed just as the light came good,Walked the outskirts of the extensive woodland, covered the many small fields......not a fekin sight.I think im becoming the most inept hunting man in Ireland Im going to keep plugging away cause fuk me its got to get better cause it cant get much worse.I feel like a beginner again,Im usually reasonably efficient with some percentage of success, but at the minute im at minus %10 lol. jigsaw 11,866
Better off getting shot of those lurchers and get pair of huskies and go seal hunting, lol lol,i was thinking the exact same.I had great expectations for this season as had a few days booked in with lads that had better ground than me.one town was submerged in 3 ft of water for a month,so that plan got''washed'' away. Fields are destroyed here but still getting a few runs ive had more blankety blanks than les dawson lol 2 Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
It's terrible Jigsaw, up here in Meath we had 2 or 3 heavy showers today and they're telling us that we'll have a few showers tomorrow. Then every time we go out it seems like every earth has a bloody fox in it with the bit of rain we've been having. We were even shooting the other day and even the Springer Spaniel was marking foxes to ground. If I had been wearing a coat I'd have took it off and thrown it at the dog. Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
Just one or two little questions the answers could be helpful for you . The land you run on how often do you go and do you park in the same place, without knowing your land or you for that matter it could be you've fallen into the trap" Some might say I'm talking bollocks but what I say is true, who believes anything about hunting must know changes too the way we hunt need to adapt , we all falter at times like your self at the moment struggling and not understanding what and why it's turned against you the quarry is there but can't seem to be able too get on it am I right / wrong. I bet you walked them fields and learned where you are going to get a run or not whichever way you are not going to relies that animals learn and adapt themselves. So it's my belief mate you've fallen for the woman's way of life by keeping the same routine , every time you get out I bet you go into auto pilot without realising it , simple fix mate is too change the way you approach and walk starting in different places where you wouldn't have before it worked for me just give it a try atb Mark 1 Quote Link to post
