Dew Claws

Have you had the dew claw removed?

If not does it get in the way and what do you do to stop it?

I ask this because I was at the vets today with the pup talking to the vet about it he said it would be £500-600 to remove them, I don't want to have to pay that he said put bandage over them when go out, does anyone do this?

that price is abit steep mate. ive got 2 dogs here one is 11 and has never had any problems with his dew claws the other is just coming upto 5 and had to have his dew claws removed 2 seasons ago.

 

i was quoted £220 to remove the front dew claws from my dog he had to have them off as it basically stopped him running. biggest part of the bill was to put him to sleep for the op. total cost when finished £160

I have a 13 year old bedi greyhound who has never had a problem with the dew claws and i have had coursing dogs who never had an issue with them.

 

Personally I would not pay that amount of money without seeking additional prices from possibly a greyhound vet.

 

I have been around dogs for years but have not come across people having problems with dew claws.

10 weeks old, said that they was very big and formed, she did say I should of got it done when he was younger and it would of been easier to do

Just leave them on at present, some dogs run their entire lifetime without having any issues

with their dew claws, while others can get a lot of grief from them, time will tell.

 

If you do have issues with dew claws you could always wrap them with a bit of vetwrap and electrical tape.

 

By the way the price your vet quoted you was a fecking joke, I would change vets pronto.

I think I paid £170 just to have 1 taken off that my mate didn't take right off properly

Get some cohesive horse bandage and cut it to size, works a treat on my bitch who's always catching them. Don't wrap it too tight though.

Bought both my dogs now are without. never had any issues in past with dogs with thrm like touch wood.

Theres not many that would know what a footpad was mate.

werbad, i wouldnt want them on a Hare dog but dont mind them on a rabbit hound.
