ive only seen a few examples of the cross in the 80s and early 90s some were decent dogs maybe the standard of deerhound is not there anymore.

i think this photo says it all about my bitch, found out a few home truths about her the last few days,i am dissapointed to say the least but she slays rabbits like a good un lol   this is my last de

I think its a sad day in gb when the nation that gave the world the most working breeds of hunting dogs has choked itself to death with stupid anti hunting laws that a lot of breeds are in better nick

Hybrid vigour would be there with the 1stx so I think must be more to it,this isn't a lurcher vs lurcher breed type three ,just a personal observation I've made a deerhound x greyhound with just a dash of another working dog seems to be better than the 1st or 2nd cross .

I think you are dead right, there are not that many about being worked, you see a few at the shows with people who quite clearly are not working them but other than that they appear to be scarce, my lad has a nine month old line bred deerhound/greyhound thats very keen on everything so I will put some pics up of him when I take a few, he's caught quite a few rabbits for a pup so the future looks good for him, marks up holes and cover, great nose, fingers crossed, WM

I know it would, or rather it should, but is there any useful working deerhounds available these days, and what would be the chances of getting a line from their lesbian, spinster, hairdresser owners ?

Mine is 5 year old now... Deerhound lurcher x deerhound lurcher, beddlington blood 5 generations back...

He's great in the house, quiet and chilled out, spot on with kids... But I wouldn't own another, don't get me wrong, he kept me out in the fields and he wouldn't turn his nose up to anything. But there are much better animals out there.

Good lamping dog, but would be left wanting another gear for a daytime hunt, along with some stamina... Would be ok for the Subaru crew but nowhere near hard enough looking lol...

Always enjoyed being out with deerhound hybrids,...

Personaly,..I like to add a fair old dollop of sheepdog blood into the mix...

Deerhound/grey X collie/ grey were once the dog to have, seen them make short work of anything and wish there was more about, there's a guy down Craven Arms way, shropshire that pumps them out but they are sh*te, I went to have a look at them and they were very poor,2 blind pups in the litter and very inbred heavy dogs,he does a few shows and spouts the sh*t that the adults work but they quite clearly don't, we will breed off this dog if he turns out well but it will be either a greyhound or collie cross, WM
