Dawn B 212
I wouldnt worry unless you hear anything. If it was a genuine accident I expect the worst could be they would have you for having a dog out of control and make you keep him on a lead in a public place. Doubt it would come to that though. Mitch 0
bring your dog over here, Chase all the cats you want. I dislike cats, the way they roam the streets and the way the owners think its fine, then as soon as something like this happens your the worst person in the world. Cats have become a huge problem in Aussie they have taken to the bush they are no good is it the same over there? Quote Link to post

wuz 40
We had an incidend like this two years ago my son was coming in early hours after a shine with the lamp. He was on playing fields the dogs were off the lead and a cat appeard about 200 yards away .The dogs killed it on the owners back step the police were called and the dogs were taken to the kennels.I phoned them and toled them they were my dogs the copper tried telling me the dogs wernt under control. The dogs were under control it was the cat that was on the field and not under control. We got the dogs back just paying the kennels fee. Denzil 0
If you set the dog onto the cat deliberately ( I know you didn't but just suppose ..) you could be charged with cruelty under one of the cruelty to animal laws (don't know which one) - even then someone would have to witness that they saw you do that. Say for instance you were in a busy street and a lot of people saw you setting the dog onto the cat then you could get prosecuted. A loose dog killing a loose cat isn't a crime as far as I believe. It might be worth checking that the area where you were wasn't restricted e.g. you could get a slapped wrist for trespassing or not keeping the dog on a lead if it is an area with a local byelaw to keep dogs on leads. I think the worst would be a slapped wrist. Edited November 25, 2007 by Denzil Quote Link to post
Tiny_dancer 0
my mate had to put his dogs down because they killed a cat thats in AUS so im not sure what its like everywhere else Quote Link to post
allgame 0
never heard of a dog getting put down for killing a cat two wrongs you know im sure theres more to that story but sounds to me like if his cat was off a lead and your dog was off a lead well whose to say the cat didnt attack your dog and it was merly self defence besides i personaly would have given my dog a pat on the head its bullshit they can just wonder around where ever they like its become illegal in most areas over hear to let the cat out of the house at all Quote Link to post
