Greyhound X Doberman

Recommended Posts

Mate of mine had this x, not sure if it was a first X, he had her for 13 years, best lurcher he even owned he said, brillant all rounder, she was only 23.5 inches tts, surprisingly - I remember when I first started (over 20 years ago) & he asked me to hold her on the slip, terrier was in at a fox in rock pile, he said if the fox bolts make sure u slip her, if she sees it and u don't slip she'll nail ya. She never did, I found her placid and quiet enough on the slip but I do remember other mates heading in opposite direction when he asked someone to hold her round a dig etc. Lol

I can believe that they would make handy lurchers if you used the right Doberman blood.

My old man has got a dobe bitch, she's 9 year old now and I've Lamped her in the past when she was younger. She's caught rabbits and retrieved shot fox with ease. And she enjoyed the job. She's got a great temperament, good nose, naturally athletic and good feet.

I believe she could have thrown a decent litter of lurchers if a coursing dog was put over her. But I don't know if it would be any better than anything else what's out there. Probably not. But who knows.

Doberman do have greyhound in make up and have double suspension gallop.Like any breed there's good and bad have know dobs with good temperament and also ones that would take your head off. Using dogs to hunt roos is illegal in Australia but I can see such a cross making a very handy roodog.

I always thought the weimaner ? Would be better cross.

Seen a litter of Weimanarer x salukix. Most went as pets but 2 went to working homes. A large male that looked impressive but too heavy/ungainly for allround work but okay on Sika. A bitch from the litter was a better dog and racey for a first x.
