slip lead 862
A normal slip, You just hold the wooden handle, and have the loop over ya hand, then just let go of handle, and the dogs slips,no noise and the dog don't get lashed. A collar is just another hazard,If ya dog charges through thick hedgerows Quote Link to post

Allan P 1,149
Use a gun dog slip lead, pit your left hand in where the dogs head should go and tighten the loop up around your wrist. Put the loop where you should normally put your hand through around the dogs neck then pull the lead through the same part and hold it with the your left hand. When you can keep it tight to control the dog but when you let go it comes away totally from the dog but is still attached to your wrist. Easy to show do but not easy to explain. 3 Quote Link to post
trigger2 3,137
I always lamp with a collar on and rarely use one daytime mooching or ferreting. Generally I don't like running dogs with collars on but I'm yet to find a decent slip lead or system which doesn't require a collar. they youse to do leather slip leads when i was a kid that had a brass loop on the collar you would put it round your dog and clip it back onto the lead. it looked like a normal lead and collar but you just pressed the brass attachment that the collar was conected to and the dog was quick released and running without a collar on. i think you might be able to pick them up still, 2 Quote Link to post

trigger2 3,137
i never use a collar a dog ive herd plenty of stories of dogs pushing through hedges behind there quarry and apparently catching there collar and in some cases managing to kill there selves so i dont take the risk. if i am out with someone else and we are running 2 dogs i use abit of rope for a lead so the other person can hold my dog whilst i work theres from the slip when lamping. when its my dogs turn to run he is let off the rope and worked lose, no slip leads or collars for me.
