First Night Out Of 2016

with the forcast predicted to be 18-20mph winds and rain for night i give bird a quick phone call to see if he fancied a trip out with dogs and as usall he was up for it.

 

with all the rain we have been having of late i couldnt make up my mind on what to do, should i go on hilly ground with the hope that all the wet has pushed the rabbits up on the hill side or just head out on the lower ground and see what it was like.

i decided to head for some flat winter wheat fields that i knew held one or two rabbits.

 

although the wind was in our favor with good cloud cover the rabbits were extremely lamps shy and faster of the mark than a tramp on chips, almost every rabbit was hitting the hedge rows flat out and we were only getting a couple of runs per field and the dogs had to work hard for there catch. walking for myself and bird was a bloody nightmare sinking upto our ankles and above in the soft mud on the fields.

 

our big heavy dogs were sliding all over the place on the turn and must have been finding it hard to run on the soft ground we ended the night on 17 hard earnt rabbits they hardest earnt for a long time.

 

no pics i am afraid has ive banned bird from bringing his camera lol.

great night jon, and great way to start the new year . but bloody hell wasn't it hard going across them fields with mud+water , it was hard walking never mind the dogs running them . took dogs out today Buck bit sore around his head, but he should be ok for next week , just hop it dry's up a bit for all the walking

was out last night very wet to up over me wellies at most gates as he had cows of there a month back hopefully we have a few dry days the pup was realy struggling to hold her self on the turn sliding over the lot lol

very happy ,both dogs run very well considering conditions , and both being large dogs not easy for them.my dog can handle most type of ground, his size deff comes in handy I reckon for ground and game

trig (jon) not bothered with pics, which fair enough , an most times 3 .30am with 45 min drive after just wont to get home to bed lol not mess taking pics , anyway ive got tons of pics from of my dogs so no prob for me

i have a few pics of my pups as they start out in life as its nice to have a memory or two of them then. i do take pics of big bags, anything upto 30 i have had loads of times so theres no point in a pic theres only so many times you can be bothered to line rabbits up lol
