BGD 6,436
Not the first time I've heard of dogs "attacking" the owner when having a fit. Maybe they are trying to get the owner to stop or something. Have seen a dog howling at someone and everyone was laughing as they'd never seen the dog howl. Few minutes later blokes on the floor shaking and pissed himself. Rip to the poor bloke, ashame our media will just use it to paint pitbulls in more bad light. true that, any type of dog will attack when the owner shows its having probs. its the same when dogs are hurt and screaming , ive seen it lots of times the other dogs will attack it, its a pack thing any sign of weakness they will kill it Yet i have seen incidents of dogs protecting owners who have had heart attacks, or collapsed... i think that the dog doesn't understand the actions of a person having a fit....or sees them as aggressive so attacks I had a fit infront of one of my bandogs many years ago and he just lay next to me the whole time stopping me from rolling around, certainly wasn't looking to attack me thank f**k. The reaction depends a lot on the dog IMO, a steady dog that's confident in all sorts of situations will just ride it out with you but a nervy dog will react completely differently, I found an old english sheepdog over the fields dragging it's lead a while back, turns out the owner had a fit while walking him and he had just taken off. I found the dog hiding under a bush shaking and whining miles away from where his owner had fallen. Never seen a more panicked dog TBH. Didn't something similar happen to the chap with the English bulls? In my hungover state I can't remember the kennels name Thunder Rock kennels wasn't it? Remember reading about it on here when it happened.
Flipper_Al 1,012
Interesting how dogs react in these situations.. maybe i was looking at it in a too simplistic way BGD
mushroom 12,972
Aye that's the one. My mum has cerabal palsy. She's able to walk etc but not much and has always fallen a lot. My staffy that lives with my parents is very protective of her. To the point where no one can get near her to help when she falls before my mum tells her it's ok. Dogs are strange things
Flipper_Al 1,012
And the "Press" arnt likely to print events like that... just dog kills owner
shepp 2,285
I am pretty sure dogs are used to let the owner who suffers from fits, know when they are about to have one.

hjckcff 1,738
my daughter takes seizures. one of my terriers woke me up in the middle of the night with persistant barking. she was upside down and was choking. he saved her life without a doubt, however i would not like to leave her alone with any dog, you cant second guess what they will do.

Hope the wee terrier got a nice steak after that, doesn't bare thinking about what would have happened if he hadn't woken you Remember hearing a story about a rescue bulldog that woke up the parents barking when the toddler had woken in the night and got itself hung up in the strings on the blinds, they got to him just in time thanks to the dog.

Can't remember if it was part of an article about a woman whose cancer was sniffed out by her dog. Possibly your friend?
