Popular Post NEWKID 27,158
After the last few weeks of mooching and a bit of ferreting the pup has slowly been switching on more and more to the goings on. She's around the hedge bottoms as the terrier is working away and has had a couple of short unsuccessful runs, on Monday once she settled she really started to work with the ferrets and had a few short runs and picked one that slipped the net. After a bit of messing she brought it in and I was well chuffed with her... Well last night was blowing a gale, wet and wild and I knew a place not far which held a fair few rabbits on nice grass paddocks, this would be an ideal learning ground for her. I decided I take her and the little lurcher and give her a couple of slips if I could walk up a squatter or 2. The first field and I slipped the beddy x on one which she duly caught. Next field and one clamped tight, I walked her up, Saying her name all the way up, it stayed then ran.. she didn't pull at first.. then she saw it and gave a good pull I slipped her and the rabbit committed suicide it slowed at the hedge, stopped, then hopped twice in a confused state, perfect she just ambled up and picked it up.. Her first slip and the rabbit gave itself up, I was well chuffed...the retrieve was OK but we'll work on that. Done a few more fields and the little bitch was catching well, the rucksack was getting heavier! Another rabbit clamped tight and I decided to give her another run, this time she was right on it and ran it up and down the hedge a couple of times, missed on the strike but made sure the next time 2 in 2 and she had ran well. Carried on a bit and she had another slip which she missed, the little dog was still picking up a couple. Another clamped and she was pulling like a train, I let her slip and another was ran well and in the bag.. She had 1 more slip at the end of the night in a field of sheep, I wanted to check the stock breaking was good and it was, she missed it but a whistle and she was right back and by my side... Well 3 in 5 slips was more than I had hoped for, and 2 were ran really well, I'll keep on over the next few months giving her a couple of slips on this type land. A nice bag, a good night and made up with the pup. Edited December 30, 2015 by NEWKID 27 Quote Link to post

Somewhereyournot 1,117
Nice one mate. But to be fair I wouldn't moan at her retrieving if your taking another dog along , because all dogs get abit shy at retrieving with another dog present, unless they are very experienced. Good luck 2 Quote Link to post

Atb No I knew it wasn't a dig mate, I agree the other dog present wasn't ideal. It was meant to be 1 or 2 slips, but they were clamped tight and I couldn't resist lol. 3 Quote Link to post
