man o kent 269
I was out with the dog this afternoon, and I thought to myself, the working terrier scene is still one of the last country pursuits that looks after its own and Gives you a lifetime of sport even if you don't have a lot of money. If you are a genuine sort, and meet the right people you can be gifted a pup, a mk1 locator and collar can be had for £90, a pair of boots, a waxed jacket, a couple of shovels and you can be out there for £150. If you have a mate with a SG licence you are sorted. All for the cost of half a days pheasant shooting! I wonder if that's why terrier work is viewed as the poor relation and forgotten or distanced from by some of the countryside organisations. It's not very glamorous or fashionable. When you consider the steeply rising prices of gundogs, trendy terriers and show types, it makes me glad to know there are still folk out there who will go out of there way to help other dog men, and promote the sport at cost to themselves. Money talks they say, but not always in this game, and long may it continue! 19 Quote Link to post

Lew 111
If the price of diesel came down to about 60 - 70p a litter like it is in other country's it would be a cheapish hobby. Flesh is expensive if you don't know any flesh houses anywhere too. 1 Quote Link to post
