People who sit and crab about dogs they don`t know and have never owned need to get a life and maybe get out and do a bit instead.

 

If you like them, buy one, if you don`t like them, don`t buy one. Hardly f***ing rocket science is it.?

I can only say what I see rake,,,one dog was owned by a good friend who came out with me regular,,the dog had a great nose but that was it,,,

 

I've also owned one back in the mid ,s,,he was coming on well ,,but sadly died just over a year old...but I was just a kid back then...

 

I honestly can't for the life of me see why folk buy them,,not so much the working ability,,,but the social development of the pup,,you can't beet a home bred dog,,especially if it's in a house with kids

I think with dogs be they from Hancock or linebred from your own family....put that pup in the wrong hands and its going too end up shite, I've seen dogs from great working parents and working grandparents turn out badly....again owner was too blame in my opinion....!!! It's easy too blame the breeding for poor quality dogs but I've seen good and bad come from homebred and Hancock, look more closely at the owners....just my opinion Atb billy

The guy who owned Tarn lived and breathed lurchers,i dont think he was married back then so was out most suitable nights,he worked the dog from scottish highlands down to the south coast of england,put in stupid mileage just to get runs,and he gelled with the dog,it suited him,they were both sympatico,if it had been in the hands of someone who just liked a bit of lamping around the doors it wouldnt have racked up the tally it did,he travelled to put the game in front of his dog,it was one of hancocks beardie crosses.

i had a 1/2 cross years ago out of richard jones , a black bitch she was , she cought a good bit of stuff in her time , .im not so sure hancocks dogs are up to mutch these days ,maybe the od one or two , ,from what ive herd a fair few die young with one alement or another

As tomo said its not whether they can work or not ,surely if you breed 4 ,5 or more litters a year you will get some good bad or indifferent.

It's the fact that they are churned out time after time and the buyers are perpetuating the situation.

Farming pups is wrong whether it's for lapdogs or working dogs.

If the conditions are still as bad as they used to be they are atrocious.

If I was in the market for a collie cross I'd go to a lad that has out a bit of graft into the parents and the litter.

 

The biggest thing that makes me laugh is when owners spout breeding,as though it's something to be proud of,like the parents or grand parents are great workers or forley cup winners lol.

Same goes for all lurchers from peddlers with "name tags"

Had 2 from Hancock a little merle bitch shaping up but never made three year old. The beardie i got now has turned out to be a handy mutt and pleasant dog to have around.Like Tommo said they lack early socialisation that most home bread dogs get. ,How much you spend in the lifetime of your keep in money and time surely makes the buying price a little irrelevant

Lol yet the people who say I HAVE HAD ONE, have turned out half decent.

Think most people think because it's a Hancock it should turn out a world beater, end of the day most lurchers bred will turn out AVERAGE. The cost is there because they are genuine collie xs and the percentages are there for you to see along with plenty of back ground info.

Ye a lot of other people are breeding better litters but they ain't as easily accessible , most people ain't got a clue what is being bred etc. plenty of litters available but they tell you what you want to know.

150 quid us about average, but it could have bull saluki bedlingtoon in it when maybe your not wanting it? At least when you buy a collie x off Hancock it is what he says it is.

As for the pups looking crap online, I thought most of them look fairly strong. Is alpha cheap food? Cos that's what he feeds

I have purchased four collie crosses off Hancock over the last 25 years.

dog one,,,couldnt fault great worker.

dog two,,,,good worker/lamp dog.

dog three,,,,ok at lamping,not much drive,did things to please you,ie,would chase quarry or sit with same enthusiasm,didnt have any real self drive or determination.

dog four,,,,never chased a thing,,nothing rabbits,hares,foxes,birds,any livestock never chased anything,

dog five,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,not a chance.

dont bother about the dogs working back ground,last time i was down at hancocks 2 years ago,It appeared most of his dogs had not left the confine of their kennel for their entire life.

i have nothing against Hancock and his earlier dogs were ok,but time and age has changed every thing would i have another collie greyhound yes, of Hancock NO.

I said some,if they been mine I wouldn't took pics of them let alone put them up for sale, didn't he used to mill his own meal one time?

I had a beardie /border bitch back in 2002? Very Small bitch, ,pot filler but no world beater ,only thing I can remember is she liked rolling fox shit.

If you go on his gallery the beardie x kyna she looked like a smaller pricked eared version of that.

I have owned two dogs , gifted from him,...both ended up,.highly trained,...but, although I have been around cur dogs all my life,..I found it a hard chore, getting the right....

I do think a young lad ,..new to lurchers,..would have had an extremely difficult time....

 

There is so much that could be said,...but such chat is best reserved for another time,.and hopefully, another place...

Mines was 150 quid. Is that overpriced ? £300 for a collie x is overpriced and yet some chancers ask a grand for some saluki cross that will only run away for a mile then stand and look at you like yer thick, lol.
