bobcullen79 1,495
Poop in winter and fire starters in summer. Was on a rat job last winter and the b*****d would not stay alight, had to resort to holding a portable blowtorch to the gas can and coil to warm it up enough to just about make the thing work. Then there was the underground gas explosions when it kept going out... Made one myself out of the weed wand and that was no better really, more of a flame thrower. 1 Quote Link to post

lurchers 2,917
You can get an old petrol strummer for £15/£20 and make ya own mate. Quote Link to post
Poacherspocket 189
Cheers for the advice i just fancied something quiet but if there no good there no good. Looks like il just have to try make one from an old strimmer i have. I thought these rat attack smokers sounded a good idea to walk the lical hotspots with. Iv never had any success on rats probably due to inexperiance but the terrier is mad keen at the minute marking rat holes and anywhere they may be. Quote Link to post
navman 126
The only benefit is the noise, as they are silent and after a while listening to a petrol engine revving away you will appreciate the difference. Unfortunately from my experience of using the smoker is that they just don't bolt rats, they look very impressive and seem to fill banks etc with their smoke but it just isn't pungent enough to bolt rats like the fumes from a petrol engine. I bought one, tried it on several locations that I knew to be holding rats and was very disappointed with the results, rang company who manufactured smoker and complained, they weren't aware of others having similar problems and suggested mixing something more pungent into the supplied fluid mix, again tried with limited results, don't use anymore, another waste of money in back of shed, complete waste, shame as it could been far more efficient in areas needing quietness. Please don't buy one, you will regret it, save your money for something else. Quote Link to post
Hands of Stone 154
Ive got one in my shed gathering dust.... tried it a few times bolted feck all, yours for free just come and get it! P.s. Its a bit dented from rat-free induced rages! 2 Quote Link to post

I don't get why people have to have an engine revving it's t!ts off, I use a leaf blower engine and it has a setable throttle but usually it's just ticking over and still bolts rats well. Left sat on the floor you can feel the vibrations from it standing a few feet away and that, imo, bolts rats combined with the fumes/smoke 2 Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Exactly right mate .All revving does is kill them underground.Tick over is the way we do it too . 1 Quote Link to post
