lurcherman 887 13,166
Its a difficult one . I know the smell your on about. Friend of mines house stinks of smokes , think it's because it's straight fags that makes its so pungent . My dad smokes in his house but I'd doesn't smell really, maybe it's because it's roll ups or maybe because he has the door open to outside all the time for his dog to wander in or out. The kids go around there every Sunday and sometimes in the week . He won't smoke when their around which in fine with. I think it's personal choice for the parents , myself I don't mind the kids going around because he's not smoking around them and my dad absolutely dotes on the kids and they absolutely love him to death. We turn up and he's got plans for my son , out in the garden digging veg or in the workshop knocking up a bird house. Maybe it's via its my parents I feel different . I will say that even though I allow it in not knocking you for your decision . Every situation can be different for each person. Sounds like your in laws have had brushes with death and still refusing to change and it's made you lose any sympathy with then which is understandable . Almost as if your saying " if you two are going to be this pedantic about refusing to give up then your not taking my kids down with you" 1 last thing having been in the same situation with my in laws as in stopping kids going round ( for having a dog that bit the father and refusing to aknowledge that the dog has a problem ) is try not to be to nasty about the in laws to your wife. She probably agrees with you but women and their parents are different to men and their parents. Women take it as a personal slight on them Cheers for the reply mate great advice and took it all in ?? ,like your kids mine love them to death too, bad to say it but they do alot more stuff with them than my own parents do and it shows if they have a choice where to go its down there no if buts or maybes .. Also i like off loading the mrs every saturday. ?? so would like it to be sorted told the mrs if they will change il help towards any new bits n pieces they need dont mean alot just trying to help get it sorted im sure once a couple of weeks pass all will change for the better atb mate

pesky1972 5,300
Had a very similar situation a while back and basically just stopped taking my kids to the house. My advice would be to keep putting the kids first but go easy on her parents and try to explain where you're coming from. Remember that most older folks, especially if they've smoked all their days, grew up when most people smoked and pretty much anywhere they liked. They just don't get how anti-smoking most people are now. Stick to your guns but keep the head too ??
jmilam08 193
So my inlaws smoke alot of ciggaretes in there gaff which has resulted in the place stinking of a dirty tobacco smell, when i take my children round to visit there granparents they end up stinking there hair there clothes even down to there skin..dropped them in for 20 mins other day come back pick em up they stunk had go home bath and change them..so we could go out for a meal.. We have told them about it and they say they wont stop smoking indoors as its there home and they can do what they want. Am i wrong or what ??? Told mrs they not going there any more mrs went spoke to chemist she reckons third hand smoke is as dangerous as second hand smoke and advised not to bring them there until place is sorted i.e sofas carpet curtains are replaced..(pricey i know) And ovbiosuly they stop ..Tbh i think there selfish fuckers .. Hard work here now ? I havnt took my daughter round my granddad in nearly 3 years because he insists on smoking on the house.we was bought up with him doin it even yiuswd to light his and my nans up for them from a young age,got a slap round the ear for it but it never seemed like smoking was such an unhealthy habit nearly 30 odd years ago I seem to remember.I make you right mate with the not smoking around kids but if they've smoked that long can't see anyone changing just leave the option for them to come to yiu. Francie 6,368
Personally i dont smoke in home, haven't for years, but just how harmful is second hand smoke, especially when you say they dont smoke infront of them whilst they are there. if its the smell, then will you not take them into a chip shop or a fish market, just to put this political correctness into some perspective one little burp by Mt Etna has already put more than 10,000 times the CO2 into the atmosphere than mankind has in our ENTIRE time on earth yet were spending billions on reducing our CO2 emissions? Now your talking paulaus?

The earth will be just fine as it has been many times before. Edited December 16, 2015 by kanny
