lurchers 2,881
My step son was gifted a pup off a lad off here as most of you'd would of read the story behind it.when we picked the pup up my answer was the favour will be returned and I'm a man of my word,I returned the favour twice as the lad and his grandad didn't have to do it and they appreciated the favour I returns.i was happy as I paid my debt and proved I keep my promise but I know where a lot of people come I've only ever bred 1 litter in 35yrs which was deerhoundxgreyhound x whippet,I sold 1 pup for £10 2 for £30 kept the 1 I picked and sent the other to the sires owner.i had 5 left and advertised them for £50 these pups were getting fresh rabbit, minced chicken and meal 3 times a day and it was winter and heating on and I still had the greedy b*****ds haggling on the price.these should of been up for £150 at the time so now I wouldn't think of breeding a litter now as I would rather buy one. Dunkanon 380
What some of you lads are calling big money is a drop in the ocean to some. You can't spend less than 300 notes on a good night out on the ale around here. I wouldn't think twice about spending 500 nicker on a well bred pup. And I aren't no rich fella. Ive paid plenty money for well bred pups when I was much younger....non of them left any good impressions and they where all brought on well...in fact one of em was completely useless despite my awe at the sellers wowing me with the bloodlines......they just didnt have what it took despite the breeding.....I wouldnt dream of paying anything like that nowadays ( I was far more impressionable back then)...paying more money doesnt guarentee a decent pup..how can it?....The dearest pups are sold by people out to make money no matter what there justification for the price tag......When I need a new pup I will stick to the lads hunting there dogs and selling surplas for realistic prices.....300 quid on a night out,...rubbish mate, where the fck are u drinking? 9 Quote Link to post

ryaldinhio 4,738
I worked with a lad about 6-7 years ago who used to run his dogs nationaly in comps running on the long legged bunnies for big dosh. He told me he was offered £10k for her and he turned it down because he was makin loads off her and then wanted to breed from her. next time she run she went down a ditch and broke her neck. Im not sure how true it all was like but he was convincing! 1 Quote Link to post

Im not sure how true it all was like but he was convincing! read a couple post were the travler lads say stuff like " I was offered to much to turn her down " j think also what they mean is if someone offers 10 k for a coursing dog and said owner says no they'll just pay some other lads to nick it for slot less than what was offerd. Think this is why so many coursing dogs go missing Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
Money is all relative,to some one on the dole with no other income £500 is a lot of money. To a young lad ,living at his parents, with a grow on ,or selling the powder,it's easy come easy go. Some coursing dogs have gone for 5 figures in the past , if someone's prepared to pay there will be a seller. Is it right? Probably not ,but it's life. 1 Quote Link to post
ryaldinhio 4,738
Flip the question then lads, not how much would you pay for a dog......how much would you want to let your current mut go to a new home? Surely thatll give you an answer? 2 Quote Link to post

jukel123 8,650
The bull cross that was for sale for £1200 is now down to £900. Given that the seller will probably come down a couple of hundred, for somebody that's into bull crosses (I'm not) it's not a bad price in my opinion. Do the maths, he's spent that over three years in feeding the dog. Yes I know buying a pup and training it yourself is more satisfying but for somebody who hasn't the time or set up for a pup, a guaranteed dog like this would be ideal. Seems extravagant but no more than buying a pup and feeding it for three years. Edited December 23, 2015 by jukel123 Quote Link to post
