jukel123 7,957
Price of a pup: £150 Feed for two years. Let's say £5.00 per week minimum: £520 Vets bills minimum : £100 Wear and tear on kennel or house minimum: £50. Time socialising, training, walking and general care: A lot! To buy, train, feed and vet a dog for two years would cost at least a grand. And you could be left with a dog that's not up to scratch at the end of it all. IMO £500 for a dog that does everything you want it to is cheap. I would be asking why the reason for sale and wanting to see the dog performing more than once. 2 Quote Link to post

My uncle asked why you not charging any money because I'd rather my litter go to lads I know and trust for free than to a dickhead i don't know for a 100 pound ! 10 Quote Link to post

Flacko 1,742
Some of the coursing lads pay top money for saplings out of known dogs/ bitches, I reckon it costs you a grand to rear a pup up to 18 month old if you put a price on your time as well as upkeep. A lad I know ask me the other day to find a top daytime rabbit dog for him says put price on it meaning he pay top money still everyone different. Atb Flacko Quote Link to post
Outgoing hunter 53
I'd rather sit in or be out with nets than buy in an adult dog to get out, if I ain't reared it, I ain't running it. exactly my point Quote Link to post
Butler 396
Never bought a working dog for more years than I can remember..... But why are lurchers and terriers under valued so much £600 for a made dog would be nothing. You would struggle to get a lab or a pointer straight out the nest for that kind of money... 3 Quote Link to post

I dont think they are under valued ... These KC & pedigree types are probly over valued.. Think if your happy paying the price thats all that matters.. I would pay up to £250/£300 for a pup, Id not pay anymore cause their is more supply than demand.. To many folk breeding lurchers which keeps the prices down Jmo.. 3 Quote Link to post
Butler 396
It seems to me people are willing to shell out more on a lamp and battery than they are on a decent hound/best pal..... 5 Quote Link to post
dogmad riley 1,343
I'd rather sit in or be out with nets than buy in an adult dog to get out, if I ain't reared it, I ain't running it 100% agree it's part of the dog game to rear your dog and the sense of pride you get when everything clicks into place. Anyone can buy a good dog but not everyone can train a pup into a good dog 3 Quote Link to post
king 11,972
I'd rather sit in or be out with nets than buy in an adult dog to get out, if I ain't reared it, I ain't running itI can understand where you are coming from.but if fate ment you lost your dogs and I dont wish that on you or anyone else.then a ready made dog say in September is a very tempting thing to consider or just wait out the whole season. Its like a terrier man having lost say 2 of his best dogs in very short time.i bet he would be tempted to buy a ready made dog for the season. But each to there own. Edited December 16, 2015 by king 2 Quote Link to post
jamie_rob 215
What if on the first night out, it slips and breaks it neck and you just paid 600 for it. You'll be wounded and a whack of the missus if she knows how much you paid for it 3 Quote Link to post
