BSA Sweet 17 HRM rifle scope 3-12x40

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am after some assistance/Advice! I have accquired the above scope however no matter what adjustment I make to the focus and the front lens I cannot make the picture sharp in x12 magnifcation. The image at x12 seems very soft and out of focus. I have tried all number of adjustments and nothing helps. Does anybody have any experience or knowledge of this scope that they can share with me!, other than throwing it in the bin! (It does seem sharp and clear upto 6 or 7 x magnification.)

Regards

Hey mate! Im afraid theres nothing wrong with the scope. Its just the quality of the lenses isnt good enough to cope with very high magnification. You get this problem with all the lower end of the market scopes. Im not for one minute insulting you or saying that the scope is useless, simply find the magnification number where the scope will focus well at the futherst range that you intend to shoot at, and then stick to that setting. I found i had this problem with all of the lower priced scopes iv had, and its only now that iv invested in a NIKON scope that i can see what i was missing, literaly. Hope this helps. Cheers

Thanks guys for your help, I find it strange that BSA would release a scope that wasnt capable of at least a reasonable level of clarity and sharpness at all its given magnifications. But I wont loose sleep over it. On the subject of cheap scopes, one I do have which works execptionally well is the simmons blazer 3-9 x 50. Its sharp and clear at all magnifications. The cross hairs are very fine, a personal preference and its very accurate so far on the HMR. I have used SB 8 x 56 scope on same rifle and whilst the build quality is in another league with the SnB , the grouping at 100 to 150 yards is exactly the same. Or to put it another way, the skill of the shooter is the only variable!.

Cheers

Bin it,

I had one and it was a complete waste of time, as the man said, get a Nikon or Bushnell, you will think the BSA 17 has bottle bottoms for lenses.

get a bushnell elite 4200. 6x24x50. top scope very clear. get one from the USA as it would work out a hell of a lot cheaper.

they are over priced here anything from £500 to £600 in some shops. which i wouldnt pay that money for it. but you could find some secondhand ones cheaper got one for £285 like new with mounts. if not try a mtc viper 4x16x50 great scopes for the money  or get a simmons whitetail 6.5x20x50 from the USA for £100 pound. thats what i use to have on mine before i got the bushnell. these are great for the money
