Somewhereyournot 1,117
I just read it again and missed the main bit. He doesn't mouth a rabbit at all? I wouldn't take a rabbit off him until he grabs it with his mouth mate personally. But that's abit of a strange one Quote Link to post

slip lead 862
Get him over the field with a tennis ball and make it as fun as ya can. A lot of young collie crosses can be very annoying doing this (catching with there feet) if he will not entertain the tennis ball bring him ferreting, he will learn, it just might be 10 rabbits before the penny drops, but it could also take double that so the more he sees the better. Edited to add IF HE HAS NEVER HAD FUR IN HIS MOUTH, GET A SKIN ON A FLERT STICK Good luck Edited December 15, 2015 by slip lead 1 Quote Link to post
cooper101 86
Also try taking a dummy or dead rabbit out at night drop it when the pup doesn't see and then lamp it a send the pup too retrieve it..when your happy the dogs got it try it again lamping the real thing....all the best Cheers for the reply I will use some off the things u sed , he will retrieve a dead rabbit but doesn't seem to want to pick a live one up . In all fairness it sounds like he's just excited and unsure what too do when he's caught...I would not worry about scaring all the other bunnies off in the area and wait and call him and reassure him you want him too bring it too you....I know it's gutting when the pups clearly done a good job but inexperience gets in the way but there not machines...even ppl who are trained and trained again can forget bits that in training they do perfectly...if u have too wait 24 hours using the silliest babyish voices you know too get him too bring it too you, believe me it's worth it, plenty more nights too do it perfectly but hes still a trainee, by the way if your taking him with another dog that's no good either one man one pup when your training, that's my rule and i never had a dog that didn't retrieve too hand...if u want anymore advice feel free too pm me with any questions regarding bringing the pup on....yis billy 1 Quote Link to post

Casso 1,261
A lot of sensitive types will start out like this , catlike as such, another element with sensitive types is if them were ever confronted for mouthing, it can regress them in this aspect of prey instinct, I wouldn't worry bout it at this stage the more confident the pup becomes in itself the more predator like it acts, kitten like feet first, bulldog like, mouthful , Quote Link to post
