Recommended Posts

The little bitch is layed up for abit so all iv got to run is the pup....

Bit of a wounder.....

I want to get the pup retrieving some more fox but its not all that easy with out misty....the pup doesn't follow the beam all that well yet :wallbash:

Never mind....ill have to make do. At least it gives me more time to give the pup some punishment and get her going properly. She is showing some very good signs on these shot fox's, she seems to love fetching them for me :whistling:

I sincerely hope your'e going to get that treated properly: a wound that size needs stapling or stitching or it'll be an age for it to heal. Doesn't look very clean in the 2nd pic either, and that daggy bit of dead skin to the right on the pic should be professionally removed as it is dead and will only slow down the healing process.

Don't forget that she wouldn't be able to get at the wound to lick it herself and keep it clean either.

If all this has already been done then I apologise for jumping the gun, but if that is the case where's the pic of the treated wound?

Wounds need stapling as soon as possible after they have happened; that will need a lot of staples and very thorough cleansing with something like Hibiscrub before the wound is closed. Don't forget to leave an inch gap at the bottom for it to train: and the chances are the dog may well need antibiotics too. Unless your mate is well experienced at this sort of thing then it is a job for the vet.

I think you may think its bigger than it actually is. Put it this way an inch gap wouldn't leave much room for staples.... Its only about an inch n a half...

It does need sorting tho and it will get sorted

Thanks for the advice its much appreciated,

all the best witton

thats no fox bite.

wire i say,and yes it may look bad but in two weeks or less it will close up.

dont think small skin wounds like this need staples.

they do ok on theire own

That wound looks like a rip to me not a bite, maybe caused by the dreaded barbed wire. Skycat hibiscrub is a antibacterial hand wash not a wound cleaner, did you mean betadine? A vet would insist on putting the dog under for that wound!

Hibiscrub is what my vets use when cleaning a wound prior to stitching or stapling it. Yes, it can also be used as a hand wash: ..........to be honest I generally use boiled salt water when cleaning a fresh wound, but in the case of the wound in the pic it looks a bit dirty, so probably already contaminated with bacteria etc. I'd use Hibiscrub if it were my dog.

Just copied the following from a medical site........

This preparation contains chlorhexidine gluconate in the form of an alcoholic solution. Chlorhexidine gluconate is an antiseptic effective against a wide range of bacteria, yeasts, some fungi and viruses. It is most active at a neutral or alkaline conditions. Its activity is reduced by the presence of blood or body fluids. It binds strongly to skin, mucosa and other tissues and is therefore poorly absorbed. It is used routinely as an antiseptic hand-washing preparation and as a skin cleanser for patients undergoing surgery.

I know it says its effect is reduced by the presence of blood etc, but I've always found it to be a safe and effective cleanser of wounds to the extent that when I've stapled afterwards I've never had a problem with infection: or maybe I've just been lucky!
