Dogs Condition Suffers

Recommended Posts

As title says, every year around this time my dogs condition seems to deteriorate looses too much weight and even gets sores around his ankles. he gets out for walk every night and goes lamping twice a week in season. Dog is bull greyxgrey/wippet. On season I feed him gain 28 and he looks terrible off season he gets other food and looks great. what all do you guys feed during the season how often do they get out etc like to see others views.

What do you feed him off season ???

Ok so not much difference food wise then ... Dull coat losing weight bad condition because of extra work and colder wetter weather means the dog needs better nutrition ... He needs more fats and good protein in his diet ... The only way to get that is by feeding him a raw diet mate ...,you will see a big difference in just two weeks mate ... I take it the dog has a warm draft free kennel with plenty of bedding ? As again that will make a big difference to the dogs condition ........

Just feed him what you feed out of work. Maybe Gain 28 is to high protien for him this can lead to skin conditions and loss of condition carbs and fats are the main stay in cold weather for heat and energy . Twice a week is not a lot for a healthy dog to work

Cheers for replies guys. Yes his kennel is draft free and is insulated with 100mm kingspan kooltherm (prob better insulated than my house bedding changed regularly. I will get him on the raw diet and hopefully pick him up. Never had it with any other dog before but then again this is the first with whippet blood ive had maybe thats a contributing factor maybe not. Cheers again lads

He needs more food but I cook mine, escpecially in winter. Make a stew with beef, lamb, veg, cabbage leeks etc and add some of your gain or other as a biscuit with the gravy when its cooked. You can use mince or cut meat up.Use whats available but dont feed cooked bones. A nice stew and a warm bed and you will see him gain some weight. Increase or decrease daily by looking at the dog and his condition.
