socks 32,253
What do you feed him off season ???Purina Beta adult Ok so not much difference food wise then ... Dull coat losing weight bad condition because of extra work and colder wetter weather means the dog needs better nutrition ... He needs more fats and good protein in his diet ... The only way to get that is by feeding him a raw diet mate ...,you will see a big difference in just two weeks mate ... I take it the dog has a warm draft free kennel with plenty of bedding ? As again that will make a big difference to the dogs condition ........ 5 Quote Link to post
desertbred 5,490
Just feed him what you feed out of work. Maybe Gain 28 is to high protien for him this can lead to skin conditions and loss of condition carbs and fats are the main stay in cold weather for heat and energy . Twice a week is not a lot for a healthy dog to work Quote Link to post

Yes his kennel is draft free and is insulated with 100mm kingspan kooltherm (prob better insulated than my house bedding changed regularly. I will get him on the raw diet and hopefully pick him up. Never had it with any other dog before but then again this is the first with whippet blood ive had maybe thats a contributing factor maybe not. Cheers again lads 1 Quote Link to post

Somewhereyournot 1,117
Buy some lard and add a good amount to his grub a day. I'd also be looking to swap to the other food if he does better on it, that's if raw is inconvenient for you. 1 Quote Link to post
darbo 4,776
Make up some satin balls and feed raw it will get some weight on him and his coat will improve. Quote Link to post
jeemes 4,498
He needs more food but I cook mine, escpecially in winter. Make a stew with beef, lamb, veg, cabbage leeks etc and add some of your gain or other as a biscuit with the gravy when its cooked. You can use mince or cut meat up.Use whats available but dont feed cooked bones. A nice stew and a warm bed and you will see him gain some weight. Increase or decrease daily by looking at the dog and his condition. 2 Quote Link to post
