The bit regarding the tattoos is interesting.... he must have been very close to the blokes to have noticed them especially something as small as a swallow tattoo on someone's hand ..... before being knocked out cold

If I was out doing a spot of ferreting & a couple of people showed up that I had not seen about before I would have given the landowner a quick call just to see if they had any knowledge of them .. if not I think I would have packed up & gone to my car ... even for a bloke on his own it would be pretty intimidating.

Don't you find it interesting that he was supposed to be ferreting yet no mention of ferrets left behind which they would have been if he was ferreting a warren? That is without his nets that would have been covering the holes. We only have his word (for what it is worth) that he was actually robbed of rabbits?

I think there is a reference to having to collect ferrets from the farmer .. i will see if i can find it

There is, but that was some time later, and the ferrets were boxed. But the very fact that the ferrets were available to be picked up, IMO means that they were not down a warren at the time of the alleged attack.

What's getting me is they did not start this post themselves.....Gin did. Now I think we can rule Gin out, he's been very honest and not been shy in coming forward. So 1..Either they contacted Gin in the hope he put it on here and knew we would rally round and chip in, or 2..they never expected us to chip in and it's lie that's now went way passed the point of no return. Or 3...it's all true and they are gathering the evidence.

Really hoping for 3.

Feck me the Durham constabulary are not the brightest lights on the tree are they!!

This is a post they made on their facebook page on Jan6th.

A man was left injured and shaken after an unprovoked assault.

The incident happened in Edmundbyers near Consett at around 1pm on Tuesday, December 8.

The victim, a local man in his 50s, (*1) was approached from behind by two men, struck on the head and knocked unconscious sustaining injuries to his arm as a result of the assault. He was transported by air to hospital and has since been discharged. (*2)

The first suspect is described as a white man, aged around 50, six feet tall and of muscular build with tattooed writing on his neck and a swallow tattoo on his hand. He was dressed in a camouflage jacket and was wearing a flat cap.

The second suspect is described as a white man, aged around 45, about five feet tall and of stocky build. He was described as scruffy in appearance and was wearing a wax jacket and had a tattoo on his lower neck near his collarbone.

The suspects had two lurcher dogs with them, one black in colour and one brindle.

PC Michael Rutherford said: “This was an unprovoked and nasty attack which not only left the victim injured but also very shaken.

“The attack took place on farm land on which the victim had been, with permission, hunting rabbits. (*3) When he came round after the attack, the rabbits that he had caught had been stolen. We would like to appeal to anyone with information that might help us trace those responsible to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Michael Rutherford from Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting reference SB1501517.

(*1) If he was attacked from behind how does he know it was two men if he was knocked unconscious? I have had a few clouts to the head over the years, never been knocked unconscious but have always sustained head injuries in the form of cuts or bruises to the head. I honestly believe that if you hit a person hard enough to make them unconscious it will leave signs that you have been hit.

(*2) Very detailed description from an unconscious man?

(*3) This implies that once he was hit from behind and rendered unconscious, he did not come to until the attackers had left the vicinity and had taken his rabbit with them. Well how did he give a detailed description then?

I have a theory that would explain a lot of the anomalies above, but that is for another time.

Not wanting to be pedantic TC, but the statement says, he was approached from behind, where does it say he was struck from behind? He could well have been approached from behind and turn to see his assailants before he was struck could he not? I think even the Durham constabulary might have thought of this already. But then again if CSI hunting life are on the case he's screwed. Yes, the statement implies he was struck from behind, but was he? All that being said if it is a scam then shame on him and hats off to the good folk on here who believed him and donated generously to what they believed to be a good cause.

There were two men with lurchers who should not have been where they were. Andy confronted them and it got heated and he came out second best. That would explain him being able to give a description. To save face he made up the story of being attacked from behind. Whether Tonya is in collusion or not is debatable as if she had been told a story by Andy why would she disbelieve him?

A lot of things just do not add up but if looked at from a different view point they would make some sort of sense. So far we have only looked at this as if there were not two other people there. But if we take the leap and accept that there were, but not as Andy describes then small things fall into place. As with Labs post I sincerely hope that it was not an actual pre thought out attempt at deception, rather something like gilding the lilly to save face that got out of hand.

Fair comment, but if he had been struck from anywhere in the front of his head with enough force to render him unconscious I think the marks would not have disappeared within 5 days do you? Another factor is in all the medical reports there is no mention of head injuries at all. Odd?

I really don't think this was a calculated planned scam. I reckon he lied for whatever reason and before he could hold his hands up and admit he had been telling porkies the donations were already rolling in and the greed took over.

Worst part is if he had just put a post up saying his family was really struggling over Christmas half the lads that donated would of chucked a few quid his way anyway hell I probably would of donated even more than I did, the lies really weren't needed.

I have no wish to appear to being nasty to anyone,- but when i first heard, i phoned to ask who was it, did he recognize them, but at that time was told, no he did not see them, as he was hit from behind.

So much is different each time. Its a tough one, as said previously.

Whether he was confronted by two people or not one thing is for sure , it definitely wasn't a terrifying ,vicious Assault , that left a man unconscious ,a dog with out a bark and a person so scared there having nightmares .

Maybe half the story is true two people did confront him but he fell over running off and got embarrassed so made up the assault bit .
