Popular Post gwalchmai4110 1,757
had a day out Saturday to try and mop up a couple of bird killers on a small shoot. pushed some cover through first, but as we already new in that sort of weather there was only one place we were going to find Charlie, and that was under the sod. we tried a few small places to no joy so I started out across the rushes to a very large rangy earth I knew very well. the lurcher was off ahead and when we reached the earth my little red bitch was marking the top end of the earth , like her life depended on it. I tethered her and the terriers away from the earth before chatting to my mate to decide the plan of attack. this earth was spred over a large distance and I knew it to be very deep in places, but due to its range a bolt is the usual out come. we decided to try a young dog to ground who we had dug successfully in a few smaller places. we now fealt it was time to step it up a gear. I collared the strong typey little Russell up and he flew to ground. we waited with the shotguns, but half an hour past and nothing had shown. the bellman brick told me they were stationary and at a depth of seven foot. we gave it another 10 minutes and as he had not moved we started down to the little white dog. the digging was easy enough and we soon sent a rush of light flooding into the tube. and I could see the little russel, tail wagging baying frantically at his foe. he was drawn from the earth and the Charlie despatched. all in all a faultless performance for the young dog! 26 Quote Link to post
