Guest JohnGalway
Simple hypothetical question. If there was a vote to legalise bowhunting, like they do in the USA and elsewhere on predators and game animals, how would you vote? Please keep this friendly, arguments should be started on seperate threads! Feel free to give an opinion as to why you would be for or against it, as everyone is entitled to their opinion and this poll won't make a difference to anything. lucky 578
i voted "no" because if they were legal, then i could imagine all the kids round here walking down to the woods with them and causing havoc....like they do when one of them gets an air rifle..... in the wrongs they are lethal.... now if they were "legal" and licenced in the same way as shotguns i would of voted "yes".... in this f****d up country nothing gets legalized....but everyday there making something else illegal.....big buisness fineing people... it wont be long before a "FART" carries a fine with the new emmissions laws lol.... Guest baldie
Well, i voted no.Let me explain why.Lucky hit it on the head for me, but i also shoot compound bow, using very high tech gear. Compound bows are relativly easy to use, when equipped with the correctly set up sight. I could very easily indeed put an arrow into a deer at 100 yards, no bother at all.But would it kill it? Arrows work by massive tissue damage, and rapid blood loss, and deer always have to be trailed. Its a small island, and can you imagine the public opinion of seeing wounded deer with arrows stuck out of them? It was the pictures of swans/cats/deer in the press that brought about the inclusion in the wildlife and countryside act, in the first place. Its a shame, that bowhunting no longer exists here, the most famous country in the world for its archers, but unfortunatly, we have too many dickheads who would spoil it for the rest.....and did. What i will say, is anyone who fancied bowhunting, get yourself down to your local field archery club, and have a go at "3d" or "rubber deer" as its known .you walk a woodland course, and shoot at randomly set up lifesize rubber animals, at unknown ranges, with longbows or compounds.I defy anyone not to enjoy it. darren 0
i voted no ,lucky was spot on right with what he said
J Darcy 5,871
perhaps......the vote should have included a hunter can bowhunt only after he has applied for a special licence and undergone an exam. I know many years ago james douglas was trying to get bowhunting re-instated in the UK, but it came to nothing. I was meant to go to africa with the fellow but it all fell through in the end, wish it hadnt have though...... Top man he was, shame he died in a tragic accident.....had many a long chat with him and i heartily recommend his bowhunting videos to anyone.... Another good Uk produced bowhunting video was by Ken Duff..... another top man......
Guest Macnas
I cast a "no" vote. Killing game & predators cleanly and quickly is one of those things that we often tout as an example of our responsible behaviours concerning our sports. I admit, hunting with a bow has an attraction, being a very elemental way of hunting, but the hassle it would cause? As Baldie says, the pictures of wounded deer with arrows sticking out of them, just wouldnt be worth it. Edited November 23, 2007 by Macnas

The home of british shooting, inspired by Queen Victoria, Bisley, still has a well used woodland archery (hunting) course!!! And arrows are perfectly capable of stopping a deer, hunting led to the extinction of our native Roe several hundred years ago. What you see wandering around now is a re-introduced Roe from europe. greatwhitehunter 47
i voted yes because hunting is hunting and i think with practice and skill it cuold be a very effective way of pest control but i dont think i would ever do it because it looks very complicated

mackem 28,924
I voted yes, bowhunted fallow in the past,no WAY could i put an arrow in a deer at 100 yards however 40 max,and I am not a bad shot either, but I know my limitations.
Guest baldie
I,m going on my performance on deer targets at 100 mackem, i can hit the deer every shot, although not every one would be in the kill zone, and i know a lot less would be in the zone if it were a real deer, and i,m a better than average shot with a bow. This is what makes my point about bowhunting. There would be a lot of average, or below average shooters, trying to take deer at extended range, and wounding them.As you know better than i, getting into 30 yards for an accurate shot with a bow, must take some doing, 9 out of ten folk couldn,t do it, and would let drive much further away, hence wounding. SNAP SHOT 194
Voted No!! for the simple reasons are as follows, a kill should be quick and clean, lights out, simple. i have visions of every tom dick and harry shooting arrows everywhere with lots of animals injured but not killed, and then not tracked for dispatch, then joe soap walking up the street finds a deer with it's last breath of life, NOT good for the image of hunting...... public outcry would ensue doing damage to all types of hunting. maybe in the vast wilderness yes, ireland england NO, just my humble two cents...
