LaraCroft 863
A decent warm up before any exercise is sensible. Walking or trotting on lead before being expected to do some decent runs can really help make sure that cold muscles don't take a hit. Either on lead ( and you get a work out too ! ) or with other dogs in a smaller area. On cold nights, it is good practice. Same with cooling down after - a hot, panting, tired dog needs some gentle walking around to allow the muscles to cool, get rid of lactic acid, and allow the dog to chill down gently before being checked for wounds/injuries, fed ( if you do that ) and allowed to settle down for a well earned rest, somewhere warm, dry and out of a chill air.
low plains drifter 10,403
Give the dog a short emptying out walk and if it is very cold try giving a rub down with alco ectolin or some other liniment
