Want to travel on the light side, plan to stay for 2 days/nights but depending on how I feel might stay a week/10 days, so what's the essentials?

neems 2,406
A sleeping bag with a good waterproof cover, more food than you need, warm and waterproof clothes and plenty of spare socks. It would be worth getting an insertion sack or 2 to keep stuff in your rucksack dry.

socks 32,253
I'm sure your sensible enough to have plenty of waterproof and warm clothing so that shouldn't be an issue .. Pack your spare clothes individually in zip lock bags they are better than a rucksack liner because if that leaks all your clothes are wet, when your kit is individually packed in water tight bags it will always stay dry, for basic rations take anything that can come to life by adding water, hot or cold but also take packets of dried fruit and mixed nuts Incase water is scarce or you can't light a fire ... Take a fire Steele and cotton wool .. Again keep in a sealed bag to keep it dry .. If your using a hammock then don't worry about a Bivvy bag a decent cold weather sleeping bag will do ... Use bungies on your tarp as there is no pissing around cutting cord and they will flex and give if the weather gets rough and will stop your tarp from ripping ... Take a light cooking pot with a lid ... Water will boil twice as fast with a lid on ... Take a basic first aid kit that will keep you well until help arrives ... Take a good machete or lightweight axe for a dozen different reasons ... The rest is up to you ... Fishing line and hooks ... Snares etc etc etc ..........

gamerooster 1,179
Around the Scottish Borders is where I'll be heading, keilder/kershope forest, got a good bit of permission out there, the main task at hand is getting in top of the foxes, setting a few 100 snares out..... I'd rather go in the coldest of winters than the warmest of summers, why??? One word. ...midges!!! Was thinking a lot of dried fruit, nuts etc but will have a gun to, a good river with plenty of fish in so there's other options of sourcing a meal
