WILF 46,811
How much are any of you boys paying to get pigs killed in the republic ? Just want to make sure I'm not getting my pants pulled down Cheers boys
jiggy 3,209
About or 90 depends on whether you want pork or want half ham ,half pork then add an extra 25 if you want 20lb of sausages included. You supply the pig and need herd number in most places unless you know somebody that will do it on the quiet. Kill it yourself it's cheaper.
Bosun11 537
Yep, in rural Ireland, i'd be more inclined to cut out the middleman and slaughter myself. Speaking from expierience, it's not hard learned and far more satisfying.
socks 32,253
Kill it yourself ... Just remember you need to cut down a pigs throat not across as with most animals .....
jiggy 3,209
Blow torch will burn the hair off reasonably well ,it might leave a light stubble but on a fat pig you will be trimming off fat anyways. I wouldn't bother making ham if its organic pig it will have plenty of flavour without ruining it with salt. Scobie jnr and sons in naas sell all the casings and sausage mixes and salt cures posted to your door look them up online.

Tiercel 6,986
I was just thinking, livestock theft must be rife when animal disappearances cannot be accounted for. TC
fat man 4,741
Got 2 killed about 5 year ago on the qt as i had no herd number and it cost me 90euro each and that was half and half, pork n bacon plus sausages but i had no room for it all so sold 1 ready for the freezer 250 so covered the cost of killing plus the fact that i got most of the food while rearing them for free, bags of fruit n veg that were slightly gone off and about 5 ton of meal from a small piggery that was closing down and had it left in the silo. They kiled out at 14stone each which the butcher said was ideal,a hell of a lot of meat in a pig. Ideation 8,216
14 stone that's around 190 lbs ... Were they dinasour pigs ........ Thats only about 86 kilo. I usually kill mine around there, but have done them from 60-100 kilo in the past. Edited to add - Just read thats what the killed out at, so would have been around 110/20 kilos live.
