Cargol 302
Cheers pal but I don't want to bring one in untill the spring /summer. Hate having young pups through the winter. Quote Link to post
TOM HEAVY 140
aye fair comment, wouldn't mind lining my own dog...saluki/bull/greyhound with summert similar of your mentioned breeding... along the lines of deer/grey/wheaten/collie, for a bit more brain/nose/coat in the hope of a chance in producing a good all round litter. My dog is good allround but lacks on the mentioned qualities. If I could find a bitch of all round ability with the mentioned qualities being at the forefront of the bitch I would deffo line in agreement ATB, TOM HEAVY Quote Link to post
TOM HEAVY 140
the dog in question as a 15 month old pup, real-en 1 Quote Link to post
Cargol 302
Nice that Tom. Go well over a wheaten grey bitch I should imagine. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Nice dog that Tom. In what way does he lack brain? Or rather in what situations? Quote Link to post
TOM HEAVY 140
he is just not as intelligent then that of a collie cross say, it takes him longer to work situations out, its more evident in situations like ferreting for example. Obviously a good brain isn't everything and he deffo makes up for it in his drive and running ability but for a very good all rounder i believe a good mix of brain and drive is needed Quote Link to post

I see what you are saying. Don't you think it could be that he's a slow starter (regarding ferreting etc) and that he could get better once he's had a couple of seasons under his belt? 1 Quote Link to post
TOM HEAVY 140
yea he seems to get better every time i do something with him, like i said before it just takes him longer to figure it out, whats that fawn dog in the pic of yours?? Do you know this dog, how do you know he is a late starter???? Edited December 3, 2015 by TOM HEAVY 1 Quote Link to post

Do you know this dog, how do you know he is a late starter???? I don't know the dog fella. I was just saying, going off what you are saying he could be a late starter. And not actually lack anything. You could breed off him now based on his qualities and attributes, but in 2 years time them qualities and attributes could be different. Take my brindle bitch for example, at 12 months old you would have said she lacks nose, prey drive and the desire to retrieve bigger stuff. She was a rabbit lamping dog only. And didn't show much interest daytime. 2 years on and she's a different bitch. Loves the daytime work, decent ferreter, bushes like a spaniel and is happy to work alongside the gun flushing and tracking or retrieving bigger stuff. The fawn bitch is wheaten/grey x collie/bull/grey fella. Only 10 months old and got a long way to go yet... 2 Quote Link to post
TOM HEAVY 140
Aye, the black dog didn't really do anything till i got hold of him off a friend at about 17-18 months, I could see potential in him and really liked him so decided to take the plunge, at first he was a bag of shite, but this season he's took everything with an impressive catch rate, turns and gets down brilliant for a dog of 27tts, to say I am pleased with his progression is an understatement the pup is a beautiful looking sapling and is pretty much what I'm after out of my dog when bred to the right bitch if I can find 1!! like u say tho no rush on it... ATB with everything in the future TOM HEAVY Quote Link to post
mushroom 13,186
Are saying you want to line a 15 month old dog to a bitch? Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Sorry fella think we got out wires crossed. I thought the dog you were saying required more brain and nose was the 15 month old. Which is why I said it could be a slow starter and end up doing what you want. Didn't realise you were talking about 2 different dogs. 1 Quote Link to post
