I bet he still could crack on

His pal who died used to come in a boozer I frequented at the time, he used to come in with the other lad who also died and them boys used to know how to enjoy themselves so I can see how Nigel would

Benn was always noticeably smaller than all the top guys he fought at super middle.

Yes he was, didn't quite carry the devastating power up to Super Middleweight like he had at Middlweight. Would have loved to have seen him fight IMO the hardest P4P puncher in boxing history Julian Jackson.

That would have been some tear up, you would just as well have flipped a coin to predict who would have been knocked out first :)

Julian Jackson was kod by Gerald McClellen

Nigel Benn beat McClellen at supermiddleweight, rsf

Nigel had pure power at every weight he fought.

I am a big fan of Benn's fighting style and achievements in boxing, I have been meaning to visit his gym in blacktown, Sydney one of these days. Does anyone know if he is permanently back in England? The problem for Benn was he was susceptible to getting hit, which was great for fans but not so good for Benn remaining conscious at times. I personally wish all boxers would 'fight' a bit more and 'box' a bit less, but it isn't up to me how people fight but I can choose who to watch. While Roy Jones Jr had freakish athleticism and creativity and is undoubtedly a great, I put him a long way behind sugar ray Robinson and not far but clearly behind Marvin hagler. My favourite fighter was always Thomas hearns, he fought like he was carrying a weapon against unarmed men and he brutally and violently unleashed it with full force and while I don't rate him as high as some in pound for pound rankings I enjoyed watching him fight more than all others.

Something about Nigel Benn that you had to respect, the bloke had/has a prescience about him.

Funny, my girls were watching Eubank on the telly the other night and they were all a bit like "who is this wally dad" and yes it's easy to see him like that......but I explained to them that the wally once fought a man called Nigel Benn and those two men in that ring were an awesome thing to behold.

Nigel is born again if I'm not mistaken and Chris is just Chris but you can't take away what those blokes once were IMHO

Eubank was a physically hard man and a tough character to break......but for me Nigel was a far more natural fighter......im probably a bit biased towards him but i truly believe that if Nigel had lived the life and dedicated himself in the right way, stayed away from the temptations all top atletes must stay away from.......and stayed with Jimmy Tibbs.........he would of been one of the greatest fighters this country has ever produced and had half a chance.....only half mind you....of beating a peak Roy Jones.

Thing his Nigel didn't have the greatest set of whiskers out there, he had the heart of a lion though and had devastating power. From what I've read Benn was an animal in training, guess that comes from the military background and Eubank was a bit lazy. Chris is naturally the bigger, stronger guy and was a hard son of a bitch.

He was a fantastic trainer but succumbed to temptation between fights and didnt live the life at all ( this i know for a fact ;) )......he would be the first to admit he not only abused his body but abused his position as a celebrity athlete......in a boxing ring thats right he didnt have the best chin but had such an unbelievable competetive urge and will to win that as long as he could withstand the punch the opponent was often in more danger than he was from the reaction it would cause......in todays times they probably would of competed at different weights as top fighters today cut weight very differently to what they did back then....Nigel walked around at around 12 stone whereas Eubank walked around at 13+.

He,ll be back home for Xmas.....but will be back over here regularly in the next few years as the boxing scene for youngsters over here is so much better.

Its worth remembering that they fought each other at their true peaks they didnt wait until one or the other came to the end of their careers before facing them like other British fighters have.......for me it was the last great British boxing rivalry for that reason.

I can't argue with you there the boxing scene is really poor here overall and I don't see it improving anytime soon. Sometimes a decent fighter seems to pop up and then disappears even quicker. I was surprised to hear Benn was living here and I often work near where his gym is, one day I will stick my head in there and pay my respects as while he was no Calzaghe (forgive me gnasher) he was quite a fighter.

End of the day, he is still here, he has moved on and he will always be remembered for his time in the ring......that's enough I reckon.

There's a lot of top sportsmen who can't say the same.

I used to be a massive boxing fan but I have to be honest and say the fighters have not interested me for a long time now.

My view is that if a gang of travellers can train themselves and reach the top then boxing is at a bad place.

This thread says it all really, when great fighters and great fights are spoken of so fondly.......these type of lads were something special and I personally don't see that type of fighter now.

when benn fought eubanks the tape has them at a half inch difference in height and just a few ounces differences in weight, eubanks won the first and the second a draw which both men thought they had won in the last round which was the best round of the fight, i always thought that eubanks had benns number mentally.

But the Collins fight were still good slugging matches IMO, far from bad and showed all three to be good fighters.

One thing I always admired about Eubanks was that he became a much more scientific boxer after poor Micheal Watson and lets face it that would scare most folk.

After Watson IMO Eubanks could dictate a fight the way he wanted without being brutal and usually won on points.

Did Eubanks win by any KOs after the Watson fight.?

I saw him lose his title to Collins, then I went to Belfast to watch him knock someone out first round I think, then pretty much the same in Whitley Bay. I can't recall their names, but it was between the 2 Collins fights.
