Ww2 Bomb Shelters

Recommended Posts

Got a load of WW2 buildings and installations round here, the Milford Haven waterway played a major part of the defense of the western approaches. Keep meaning to go out and take a load of pictures. Got quite a few Napoleonic war era forts and defensive installations about here too.

I slept in a bunker/cave a couple weeks ago up in the fells thats no one knows how it was made its really hard to find but if you no what your looking for its easy it has what looks like gas pipes and

Used to be all over when I was a kid, usually full of wank mags and human shit ffs   Cheers, D.

well last weekend i fancied a wander to my old childhood haunts with the dogs and a friend, top on my list was to visit an old large mill buildings bomb shelter. i knew the mill had been knocked down

Tomburras, I have been in that shelter before when I was younger as i grew up in the area. There is also a shelter made in some woods about three miles away to house all the documents of the leeds perm building society. It was a huge concrete bunker that had three storys. A bit claustrophobic to say the least. I was actually stood on another brick built shelter set in woodland yesterday that i stumbled upon.

As a young kid aged about 5 or 6 i spent a long time messing about in those kinds of places, the local allotment had old air raid shelters on them, i remember discovering that was where hundreds upon hundreds of peacock and tortoiseshell butterflies hibernated. I will try and take a few piccs next time I'm there....thanks for the memories. :victory:

it was a great shelter wasn't it! its a big shame it was removed I don't know why they did it. I also played in that area messing in the woods, by the canal and river. it was great and have good memories of childhood adventures and fishing. I didn't know about the leeds perm bunker that sounds interesting is it still there?

The quarry is a shadow of its former self. I don't know if you remember the huge dyramid rock that had another huge rock balanced on top of it? I spent many years shooting and messing about in the quarry back in the days when it was open and owned by 'Briggs's' Believe it or not there is roe deer in there now!!!!!

If you go to the Iveson end of the quarry, there is another lump of woodland and at the bottom of that there is another 'shelter', a sort of concrete bunker....the other concrete structures in that wood are old sewerage units...

Just reminded me, I used to spend a lot of time exploring the old defences on the beaches / cliffs in France, they were fascinating.

At farm I did my middle year placement on had a old wartime aircraft hanger on it, one of the first ever built. The woodwork supporting the roof was fantastic, places like that are not built anymore. it was so full of character. spent many hours in there watching the grain dryer and imagining old planes going in and out and the history that went on in there to pass the time.

Thought so.....Roe have only been in the quarry woods, where the two fishing ponds are, about 5 or 6 years.....

They have been at Rodley for over 30 years, they travelled down the canal from Esholt where , I believe, several were released on a farm in the 1970's. :victory:
