The test with the larger deer was never the catching but the stopping.... Just because your dog makes contact doesn't mean you have them in the bag.

Roe could be explosive, fast to reach top speed but many were just plain stupid and were easy pickings to a half handy dog, they had a good sharp short burst of speed then the gas started to run out,Fal

All I ever used and saw ran was salukis and saluki crosses, so can't comment on how the compare to other crosses, but they did the job bang on for us, and the curious thing was they all seemed to fin

Did you know, aside from Rudolf's big red hooter it is not possible he or indeed any of the others were Males. Male reindeer shed their antlers this time of year so Santa has been telling porkies all these years as all his reindeer were females

Those munjack look like nasty little feckers

a muntjac buck is hard as nails, pound for pound he is one of the toughest beasts around. i have seen them turn round in cover and come looking for the dog on occasion, and i have seen quite a few dogs get a shredded, some of the damage they can do with their tusks is unbeleivable.

Defiantly agree with that very tough had one really do damage once

I had a saluki whippet greyhound take roe deer on a regular basis and in numbers my nephew had a saluki greyhound do the same and my cousin had a dog bred down from coursing stuff saturated with saluki that also took deer and relished it I think saluki adds abit of fire for deer but that's just what I've seen

I have seen dogs obviously pre ban take Roe quite regular single handed once they got the knack and I'm talking daytime hunting. Fallow where a different kettle of fish altogether and the same dogs sometimes struggled to get them on the ground. Could have been the calibre of the dog mainly Beddie/grey crosses I saw run at the time. Maybe a bit of bull in the mix might have given them a bit more strength and power.
