terryd 8,551
I checked out a forestry block this morning. I had lamped the top but the field was way too rough so won't be doing it again. I hoped the ferreting would work out better. It was all going to depend on the age of the trees. I remember clearing the original block of larch 25 years ago or there abouts and they had been replaced by sitka or norway dense as hell. I tried to stick to the top where there was a bit of break in the tree's but it was still dark I could just make out the odd rabbit slipping across down into the wood. The dog took off down into the dark and I couldn't see a thing lol. I seen a post where jim mentioned using a glow stick when lamping on the dog now this would be ideal. He could have been marking ten yards away and I couldn't see him mmm there was a 3 strand barb wire fence running through the wood and semi flat the dog would never see it and a rabbit would take it full pelt. I had lost the dog so gave a whistle or two and waited and after a while he found me so we decided to move on before I lost him or he hit the wire. He was well impressed with the weather. The next spot was a bit of woodland on a steep bank. Nice bit of scent about but acres of dense bramble and gorse and thats where they were coming from. The dog did his best to root some thing out but it was just too much off to the third venue then hardly any rabbits here but it was just a matter of a walk around really. He clocked the sheep straight off and gave them half an ear cock but concentrated on the job at hand after some of the events on the news of late and then you get people who are very ill or have other struggles and here I am in this beautiful scenery doing what I love it really makes you appreciate it. We caught sod all but that didn't matter in the slightest 5 Quote Link to post
