Accip74 7,112
My wife is the breadwinner. I have become 'er indoors........;-) We did have a crèche lined up just down the road, but after much discussion I gave up work as my wife earns about 4 times as much as I could here. No brainer! So glad we did it........I walk past that crèche now in mornings with the dog & see all these people dropping baby's off for the day....fcuk that! .....& now the mrs is off on 6 months maternity leave..... Both of us at home with the kids, you can't beat it! Living the dream No reason why it has to be dad earning the bacon and mum staying at home, I just think it's important atleast one parent can stay home to raise the kids as you said seeing babies being dropped off at a creche so mum can go to work just isn't right Shame it's not possible to survive on a single income for the vast majority of families these days. Well that is the reality of things today & I dare say if I was with someone else somewhere else I'd be doing the same. On the flip side my best mate is on a six figure salary, his mrs not far behind him & they chose to use a crèche from 3 months & then a part time nanny! For one child :-( fcuking awful if you ask me, when you've got the choice........
dogmad riley 1,343
Mines just gone back after maternity leave. She works part time so kids still get time with her. I work constant just done 6 weeks solid no days off, now enjoying 4 days off. Got to say lamping all night then a 12 hour shift is a killer. Often think to myself why do I do it then I see the dogs run and remember why.

yorkshire 151
My Mrs worked full-time , owned her own house , motor and paid her way prior to children ,she now looks after the kids , no time for work ,nearly every day this week she had something to do with kids in or around school , ptfa meetings for school fund raising , maths workshop with lad , meet with the speech therapist at school, help on a school walk with the daughter's year , martial arts , swimming lessons and the lad had a mate over to play and tea . she couldn't get involved in any of these things if she worked . she may not be picking them up in dubarry and range rover but she is always there for them and that suits me . That's what I was thinking........he already gets dropped off for weeks at a time with grandparents in Rome, but I guess that's not bad for a kid...haha....but I am a little disappointed with my mate tbh
Guest Navek
My missus works.. She only does part time tho .We both work to keep the house running and the kids clothed and fed lol..I offered for her to stay at home and me work nights bringing in enough money for us to live happily with only me working but she said she'd prefer me to be at home at nights so I work day so that my kids get to see me instead me working all night and sleeping all day on she said she prefers to work to give us that extra bit of money ... Plus I don't think I could cope with her in all day haha Edited November 21, 2015 by Navek
WILF 46,786
It's hard in threads not to sound smug or accusing........personally I was lucky that my job allowed my Mrs to come to work and bring the babies. Also, I also notice that these days there are loads of people who work because they have to but they also put in a massive effort with the kids, they are literally on the go 7 days/nights a week.......these people tend to have great kids by and large. It's the ones that would rather have the kid minded just so they can have "a career" I can never get my head round. Each to their own, the bottom line is.....their kids, their business!
Snifferboy 659
My wife works for me! She does all my bookwork, VAT and payroll for my tin pot little plumbing business, she keeps house and takes care of the kids... I know I couldn't do all of what she does in one week, so I'm glad I'm at work all the time, though if I could be out with my dogs all day every day, I'd be happier still, my dogs would be better and I'd be a lot less stressed.... WILF 46,786
Yeah you gotta get them out working theres only so long they can clean the house for......my womans a smart lass she works when she wants to and dont when she dont, theres no kids to look after and she makes top dollar so apart from being my pa/maid/carer her spare times her own to do what she wants with Before we had kids I insisted my old woman worked, I didn't want her sitting on her arse and thinking she could sponge off me.....it's sets a bad precedent for the rest of the relationship IMHO ! Lol Today she was hearding sheep, worming goats, trimming goats feet etc etc .........bet she wishes she was back at work. !! Lol
Bosun11 537
The simple fact of the matter is that good parents beget good children, dont matter a jot if they work full time or not... fact!
Kay 3,709
I worked full time when I got married in 86 , I had my eldest lad in 87... so after 3 months at home wit him I decided to go back to work but part time. so I did 5pm -10pm.... that worked until my bloke had to do permanent afternoons .... so I had no choice but to finish I probably had 3 yrs at home with the lad & I got the opportunity to work noon - 3pm in a garage , then the company moved to bigger premises which again meant I had to finish that job as I was unable to get there .. the lad had just started school so I went back to the factory I used to work but full-time. After my 2nd lad was born 7 yrs later I just decided to stay at home till he started nursery school then I just got what jobs I could . stuff like cleaning , caring etc ... most doing 12 hours to 24 hours in the social care sector In my working life I have done loads of different things from making Mickey Mouse stuff for Euro Disney to making shin guards & black & decker grass bags Now I work part time & my wages basically pay my utility bills ... I get a strange satisfaction at knowing that all my bills are paid & I have bugger all left & the biggest achievement for me was being able to clear my mortgage 4 years ago when i became single , I support myself & will continue to do so... the kids never went without ... they didnt have the latest gadget .. my 2 played out & where happy to get filthy in the holidays.... My youngest lads going to be a dad in March next year so I will probably get to spoil there baby a little bit I have always lived a simple life...
