Huw1988 9 Posted November 19, 2015 Report Share Posted November 19, 2015 So having always been an outdoor'sy kinda guy spent most of my youth in country side brought up with chickens,ducks,quail,pheasant and the like i took up pleasure fishing at about 13 and have continued into match angling. i have an old old .22 springer i used for paper shooting in the back garden (very big back garden). Since suffering with depression i been looking for more things to get me out of the house so i started looking back into the shooting world and back into air rifles some of you have probably seen my silly little questions on here. after telling my wife i was going to be buying a new gun she has really put the hurt on the idea saying she doesnt like the "hunting" aspect of it especially "bunnies". even tho i explained i would also be using it to help a farmer with rats and other pests she just says why kill them tho she is a meat eater but apparently that is different because she isnt killing them. has anyone else had similar issue and how did they solve it (divorce isnt an option im afraid before you guys say it lol) ATB Huw Quote Link to post Share on other sites

We moved away from a big city and had a bit of room to relax in and I told her I wanted an air rifle. She said she would never have one in the house, ever. Now I have 1 air pistol, 2 rifles and 3 shotguns lol. Course I haven't seen the wife for 2 years . I did it slowly buying a springer and she got used to the idea and now she sees how safe it is she is okay with it. Mind you everyone is different and as you know some women are impossible to please. Anything you shoot will at least have had a life living free ... The bottom line is that she isn't going to divorce you this issue is she so go ahead and do what you want ... I'd put it to her this way, given what you said above. That this will give you a purpose, make you feel more useful, and it helps with what's going on in your head. You could mention it's better than taking up gambling, drink, drugs, chain smoking..... But I'd frame it in a therapeutic sense (ironically killing little fluffy bunnies), rabbits dig warrens which can collapse under the weight of a large animal leading to leg injuries, rats spread disease etc. That you have genuinely always been interested in the countryside and this will fit into how you're trying to cope with depression. You're allowed have interests and hobbies that fall outside of your relationship. To be very frank she's being selfish, your mental health should come a way ahead of her thinking about hunting. 8 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The house was chosen for its close proximity to good hawking ground (across the road) & I hunted throughout this time & I often cooked the stuff I caught, which she obviously didn't eat. There has been a suicide thread running on here this morning, anything that is getting you out and smiling is a very, very good thing indeed.
