The grommets are a lot better than the castration rings (In my opinion) they move easier up and down the pole....plus I can get as many as I like from work for free lol

grommets you fix your line into the groove on them after the grommet has been fitted on to the pole

 

castration rings you put on the pole below the half hitch and then twist and pull them back over the top of the pole to sit on the top of the hitch

 

so IMO the half hitch sits on the outside of the grommet but inside a castration ring

Don't the castration rings start pershing in sunlight though ? and will need replacing quicker ? not this bloody year though .

People say that, I have longnets that I have had for years and the castration rings are fine, the odd one snaps but its no big deal, I have a few boxes in the shed.
