krawnden 1,036
Enjoyed reading this and seeing the photos. I tried catching zander from fen drains around the late 70's/early 80's but all I caught were pike averaging around the 7 - 8lb mark. Did hook something once that fought a bit differently but I lost it without seeing it. I used to wonder if it had been a zander but will never know! 1 Quote Link to post

krawnden 1,036
To be honest it's so long ago I can't remember. It was before I could drive and I used to get a lift with a neighbour. Didin't pay all that much attention to where we were going! But for some reason Forty Foot Bank seems to ring a vague bell in the back of my mind, as does Little Ouse. Could either of those be right? jok 3,227
Fluff. One of the best freshwater fish to eat that I personally have ever had. The flakes come off the skeleton with no problem and the taste is amazing. Problem is that fishermen can't seem to come up with the fish. Lots of promises but no Zander. We live in the MIdlands and apparently the fish like very dark areas like canal tunnels etc. Don't know if that's right but I wish I could have a nice 4 pounder to take down the local. 1 Quote Link to post
jok 3,227
I suppose it's not too much to ask. Anyone out there willing to help us? Quote Link to post
ryaldinhio 4,502
Would have loved a crack at Zander when I was younger, but theres none for miles around here I remember the fuss kicked up when they first appeared/spread ,youd have thought they were sharks FFS,"theyll empty any water they enter!!" The matchmen hated them...Fair play to you for sticking it out for them Any more pics etc??ATB Dave How far North are you Northern Lad? River Trent is full of em now into double figures. I havent fished for them yet but some of my mates have and get into em regular. Im off to trent tomorrow morning but for a day after barries not zeds. Quote Link to post

Angling Times this week theres a guy livebaiting on a free stretch of the thames 4 miles from where i am sitting who has just caught 2 superb zander with a combined weight of 28lb 13 ounces in the same session, going to give it a whirl Quote Link to post

J Darcy 5,871
Yes Mackem, the zander is , more or less, the walleye from the States. I wouodn't fancy eating one. To be honest if you're going ice fishing why not try for burbot instead.......and please, take some piccys!! 1 Quote Link to post
