Zimpara 99
After spending a week formulating a standard of deciding when my accuracy is good enough for live quarry I decided to rig up something to test that one shot performance. So each initial shot is taken as if for real in real conditions. It was gusting so paused when need be. Going for the tacks holding paper targets on. The standard I've accepted for myself is land the shot at target within half inch at required distance Rifle is a BSA airsporter mk7. Just on loan until I get my TX next week. Pellets JSB exact jumbo .22 What are your standards before shooting live quarry and any interesting targets you set up? Edited November 11, 2015 by Zimpara Quote Link to post

Blackdog92 2,047
Keep practicing until you can get the pellets landing on top of each other consistantly. Quote Link to post
Rimfireboy! 1,463
It's probably the gun to blame. I've found airsporters in .22 only to be accurate with eley wasp. They need a tight pellet because of the 5.6 bore. But then, what do I know,lol.....$od all probably.. I've had two and they both shot poor groups with anything but wasps/pylarms. Other pellets were down on power as well, by a good couple of ft lbs. 2 Quote Link to post
Zimpara 99
Yeah the Mk7 is incredibly rusty having been stored in a slip for 20years. Just been plinking with it as it has a much nicer trigger than my norica. No idea how to pull the barrel through as its an under lever so god knows what the barrel is like. 4x scope is rather nice on it. I'm opening up to the thought of getting one. 9x is not needed. j j m 6,559
as some one has said eley wasp were perfect for that gun mate Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
I would say don't worry. Keep using it on targets. Get used to just shooting a recoiling air gun. Your groups won't matter much as such at the minute. When that HC arrives, it'll be a different rifle altogether. In a way, your basically starting again. You can't compare a 20 year old BSA Airsporter to a 2014-15 HC. Although the AS was one of thee best looking models. Ever. Them groups will soon tighten. Although, it took me a good three years to keep 5 or 6 shots touching each other consisttantly. This is the bug you get with spring rifle shooting... Forever striving for 5 shots on 1 hole every time. 2 Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,561
Hi ZP, Was that 20 yr old barrel cleaned out first ? As stated Wasps were the Airsporter pellet to use in my youth I shoot the T Rex HC mk3 - and boy is she a completely different kettle of fish. Muck about with the Air Sporter if you wish but "take nothing" from the guns performance,- the barrel must be filthy and the pellets probably don`t suit. atb Quote Link to post
Zimpara 99
Thanks everyone for your kind words. The barrel hasn't been cleaned. As I don't know how to take it off. :-) Going to have a look at TXs now. PS just to add: the left hand targets were at 30m standing supported and the right hand targets were at 40 metres standing supported. Going for the tacks. Quote Link to post
Big Bunny 4
A good pull though cleaner is what you need. Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
Hi buddy Keep practicing once you have finished practicing, practice some more then more and more. Your groups should all be cloverleaf style, and under 18mm. At least for rabbits, your kill zone is 25mm,to get the back leg to give you a wave, for birds rats and squizzers you will really need to get them groups tighter, they have a much smaller kill zone. But keep the practice up,you will know when your ready, any help I can give just pm me,I see your close to my area. I also have a TX,so can help you with that as well. 2 Quote Link to post
