mighty celt 996 Posted November 9, 2015 Report Share Posted November 9, 2015 terriers cant compete when there is hot scent around,but when there is very little cold scent around thats were the terriers teagles spaniels come in to there own as they will search covers like troopers for scent,only seen the odd 1 or 2 beagles that will really search when theres no scent around most are plodders till there on. 2 Quote Link to post

mighty celt 996 Posted November 10, 2015 Report Share Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) Couldn't have put it better myself mate.had 1 good 1 but they are far and few between..mostly singers and not finders..love the cross bred beagle.as stated they look for work.our beagle x cockers will go through every inch of a wood nothing is untouched.and I can trust them 100% when nothing is in. had a springer/beagle for a few seasons pal what a dog to drive cover was a pleasure to watch had a good terrier aswell used to get great sport from them and could control them easily they wouldnt range two far when hunting heavy ditches and dykes,but would range out in bogs and heavy spots,had to part with them when the child came along and got a new job,kept on to my lurcher thou tipping away with her lamping reds when i had a chance,have alot more time now going to build new kennels in the new year,thinking of getting two cockers,would love two 3/4 cockers 1/4beagle but they be hard to find id say.cant beat a good day bushing fox.
