FUJI 17,328
How many of you would work your dogs in this? Much of my hunting is done in and amongst this type of stuff..if it can't do a 5/6 hour shift amongst this it's not worth a toss to me lol.. 6 Quote Link to post
brambles 3,311
Ive got a beardie x here shes getting on a bit now but in her younger years she excelled in that sort of terrain, pulling fur feather and teeth from the nooks and crannies beneath her feet 1 Quote Link to post
snappeer 464
If it was the only place to hunt ,yes of course Quote Link to post
paulus 26
thats mild compared to some of the places around here Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I love hunting that kind of ground. Never know what's gonna pop up. Lol 1 Quote Link to post
JakeHebb94 25
I would say that sort of hunting area is more suited to terriers than lerchers. Quote Link to post
King. 215
There miles and miles of forestry around the valley I'm in. But there feck all living in it. It's like Chernobyl around here bare And game less.i think the only pheasant that's been around here was frozen lol. There's 2 small pockets off rabbits and a few fox hare on the tops but game is very thin on the ground. Edited November 7, 2015 by King. 1 Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
My Airedale lurchers wouldn't mind it. They do a slightly milder version, (not quite so much fallen timber) but often laced with old barbed wire fences, boggy dykes, pools, thick hawthorn and brambles. Luckily they have thick skins. I saw Schuck hang herself over a barbed wire fence the other day and she had to struggle to get off it: got her just in front of her hind legs: not even a scratch on her: it would have gutted a more sighthoundy lurcher. 2 Quote Link to post
jukel123 8,921
Do you work your saluki lurcher on that stuff? How does your saluki lurcher compare with working Minshaw types? Totally different types of course but I would be very interested in your thoughts. Quote Link to post
border lad 1,047
If you value your dog, try and avoid that type of terrain, why invite large vet bills??? some times its impossible to avoid, like 2 weeks back, my brindle bitch, landed on top of barb wire, of a treble fence, she was caught right up in the groin, both sides, it will take another week for the deepest rip and hole to heal properly, so that's 3 to 4 weeks out of action, she is bred for fast work, when they hit an obstacle or fence wire at speed it can be nasty, or just a root facing the wrong way can be deadly, this happened on a Sunday I took the bitch, to the vets on the Monday morning, to get a couple of Jabs ((( I had no penicillin, I had already cleaned the wounds but the female vet, said really we should keep her here put her under, anaesthetic, open the wounds further to wash them out, stitch and staple, I said how much will that come to she said, £250, to 3 hundred I said just give her the antibiotics, and I will do the rest, today which is 13 days since the accident, the bitch is healing well, ((((( I do not need my dogs layed up due to me running them on bad ground, Of course when you slip your dog near a wood or rough terrain, any thing can happen and its a relief when they return safe with there quarry in there mouth if it is possible to retrieve,an injured dog is No good to you or to any one think before you slip, if you are on bad ground be prepared for the worse, 1 Quote Link to post

Gareth12 225
Same as king, there loads of that terrain local to me, never much there though other than the odd fox and a few squirrel. ? Quote Link to post
brambles 3,311
Near enough every park around me is fenced in barbed wire its just a day to day hazard I've got to contented with, so for me a strong and reliable jumper is a must Quote Link to post
Gareth12 225
That's some rough ground dai... Fuji just out of interest is it that type of ground your collie x lost his eye? That's always my biggest worry is the fallen timer sticking out at head height for the dog. Quote Link to post
