Gaz_1989 9,539
I said for years that I don't fancy terrier in a lurcher. There are just so many qualities that the terrier has that I don't want in my lurchers. I like a lurcher to be steady, laid back, think about things a bit, work silent and not be too head strong. All things what terriers go against. But then in March this year I got a pup with both wheaten and bull blood after reading so much about the pros of these types. I won't say I was wrong about them, they are very much terrier like in temperament, or at least mine is. She is hard work, head strong and boisterous. But she takes keen and bold to a new level. Like a terrier. Straight into anything. No questions asked. Not scared or phased by anything. And it's clear to see early on that they WANT to work. I still don't like them though ? 3 Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
If you were going to breed a litter of these I suppose you'd have to take a few things into consideration.......Would they improve on the established terrier x's already out there, would the pups be worked enough to test them to there possible potential?? I'd imagine it would take a few generations before you got a good idea of what worked. Quote Link to post
jake824 517
Never seen or heard of one. What would it bring to the table what we don't already have available in lurchers? Apart from mixed litters? Lol. drive determination coat fearlessness trainability Quote Link to post

Plenty of coat, drive and determination there. Trainability is a bullshit word made up by fools on the internet. All dogs are trainable. If you mean willingness to learn then I wouldn't have Patterdale at the top of the list. But that's just me. 3 Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
could make a handy line of yappers. Too true Darbo, too true BUT one of the reasons the Bedlington has been so popular is that writers all hailed them as 'mute' and maybe many are, though the couple i've seen underground sung like canaries! In my experience i've seen some lines of black dog almost silent, with only grunts and snorts when hard at quarry. From what i gather, there are enough other breeds in todays Bedlington to make me think that big black dogs could be every bit as good but like i said earlier, do your homework and choose your terrier blood wisely..!!! Dame92 387
Like bosun says you do get the mute ones. Just need to know the right people Quote Link to post
above ground 0
A patterdale cross greyhound would defiently have to work off proper stuff, de under ground for hrs and most lurchers can't last 2 minutes on De sod and a lot of lads think if thier dog catches one fox a week that its a world beater! roybo 2,873
Had a pat x whippet wasn't big enough TBH She could hunt like a hound ,wasn't really quick enough, Would be interested to see how a greyhound cross would look like. Maybe a 1/4 patterdale,or 3/8 would be enough. But I don't think I'd personally go to the trouble. 2 Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
But just to add she sang like a hound too,a bushing dog more than a lurcher tbh 2 Quote Link to post
neems 2,406
I like the idea of this x,but I've learnt the hard way not to try and re-invent the wheel. 3 Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
Wheatens were bred to work silent, and beddys are leggy and not built like your typical terrier. Id imagine a wirey rock dog type would be your best chance as theyre agile and athletic unlike many earthdogs. Id say theyd be yappy slow mutts but black dogs vary a lot. 3 Quote Link to post
Somewhereyournot 1,117
To be totally honest after having a think about it, I think I'd rather source a real lean athletic pit bull lol 2 Quote Link to post
