Dobbiesferrets 1
Has anyone else found it hard to find new oermissions. I currently have a 560acre farm i can ferret that a friend owns. Ive been given permission after about 8yrs of voluntary work helping him out. And ive found another small farm i can ferret but no where seems to give permission for shooting from air rifle to liveround from 410 to 12. And even those who have rabbit problems seem reluctant to speak to you. Has anyone got any advice or tips for finding and obtaining new permissions. Cheers guys Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
Name dropping never does any harm mate, "I notice you have a rabbit problem, I clear them on ..........farm for mr............ I was wondering if I could give you a hand, I am sure mr................ will give me a reference" also the offer of work never goes amiss. Quote Link to post
comanche 3,130
You are actually lucky to live in East Sussex rather than the more uptight "Wild West " of the county. They are like two different worlds when it comes to getting rabbiting. It may not happen overnight but my experience of the Eastern Front is that if you make a good job of rabbiting the permissions you have it won't be long before your name is passed about. As for getting a chance to use the air rifle; mention to your landowners that although you'll not be able to ferret through the summer you could ,possibly,if they were really desperate, try to pick-off a few bunnies on the odd summer evening just to show willing. The one 8,534
I go down the route I wounded if you would be interested in some vermin control as I've seen a fair few rabbits in your top field next to my permission with farmer Jones , and if they show a interest how would you like them controlled there's various methods . And once they know you letting you shoot is. never a problem Quote Link to post
Dobbiesferrets 1
Theres a lot more game shoots in west sussex. Not sure if we Have any . But the keepers and underkeppers keep their shoots coveted. I worked on a farm for about 8 yrs voluntary to gain experience and then to help out the farmer being a friend. Hoping he might let me shoot but hes so funny with guns he wont let me even with ferreting its a case of ok you can ferret on tuesday along the bottom of the valley. It makes my sport somewhat restricted. Ive been looking for permission for about 10yrs now and still no luck. My mate has perm from eastbourne right up to cuckmere and he still wants more. He seems to get everywhere and i cant find anything at all. But that life i guess Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
Some folk just seem to be magnets for new permissions whilst others really struggle. Really odd Quote Link to post
lurchers 2,921
You work on a farm and struggle to get perm,do you not have anything to do with other farmers around you as they will no the farmer you work for to give you some. Quote Link to post
Torquemada 288
Some folk just seem to be magnets for new permissions whilst others really struggle. Really odd I guess it is how you present yourself, turning up looking like Rambo or some p***y probably doesn't help much. Not saying Dobbiesferrets looks like that mind as I don't know the fella, but you get where I am going. Quote Link to post
