Dobbiesferrets 1
I have posted another topic about re applying for a cert after a revocation. But now im wondering if anyone who has had mental health problem or lives with someone with mental health problems has been successful with their applications. I dont have mental health problems but my partner does and takes medication for it. She doesnt have suicidal thoughts or anything but she can get very overwhelmed by very simple things, most of this has been triggered by medical problems. But as i said i dont suffer with these issues and i would be taking steps such as putting the cabenet in the loft so its well out the way. And my partner has an interest in shooting and would like to try clays. Has anyone experienced the same or similar Quote Link to post
KES2 171
I havent had experience of either situation but feel that a positive hobby would help anyone in your or your partners situation. You can 'rent' a shotgun at many clay venues and, to be sure if you reapply, you might have a shotgunning friend who would allow you to keep your cabinet at his house. Alternatively you could share a gun with a friend and leave it in his cabinet - your FEO will just want to know where it is and would confirm your friends storage is acceptable or know it is if he currently has a cert. Every skill your partner learns will help her confidence and self belief. Even a walk round a farm (you have permission to shoot over) with a gun would change her perspective and interests. Try it - but talk to your FEO first - they can give advice even if you aren't yet a cert holder. Best of luck. Quote Link to post
bob.243 8,620
They are not so keen on storing in the lofts nowadays, because of the ladder access, it's all this health and safety shit. Quote Link to post
Slippery_Weasel 460
So have you had your certs revoked in the past? Unless they have previously be taken because of partners problems. Far as I know it wouldn't even come out in the application. You're the cert holder, key holder so the checks with doctor are against you not anyone you live with Quote Link to post
Dobbiesferrets 1
Thanks guys. Yeh i had my licence revoked about 4-5yrs ago. A slight family disagreement and my brother phones the police.i was arrested and after an hour or so in the cell i was told i would sign a piece of paper saying a family disagreement took place and police shouldnt have been called. When i asked if i should let my feo know. They spoke to me like shit " why would you have a gun" having to explain why i had a licence. I was then left for another 2hrs and quistioned. Forced to take caution for assaults which i hadn't commited. Its a long story but after accepting the charges ive now realised the police have made a massive gross error and i believe misconduct. I did make a complaint but the 50 did what they do best and close ranks and mess you around until you stop persuing the complaint. Quote Link to post

"........I was also charged with failing to comply with terms of shotgun cert ( notify change of address)..........." As you say, its a long story and probably more than here as well, but as this was only 4-5 years back and you have had issues with a neighbour more recently, then as said on the other thread, I think that only your region will be able to answer your questions! wabbit slayer 16
My advice would be to be as open and honest as you can with the police and FEO, a year or two ago I had a visit from my Dr at home. He informed me that he had concerns about me and asked if I would surrender my firearms to the police for a while? I explained that I had no issue with this if he was concerned but that he should not worry as I am 110% safe. Seconds later I answered a knock at the door only to find two armed police officers . They were very understanding and helpful in fact they even helped me load the police car with my firearms and ammo. As I waved goodbye to them and my firearms my Dr asked why I was so helpful and why I did not argue with them about taking my guns etc.? What was the point I said I need to show that I am safe and level headed, kicking off would not do me any favours. basically a few months later I received a letter from the Chief inspector apologising for what had taken place but they needed to ensure that whom ever holds a firearms licence is safe and sane to do so. A week later I collected my guns etc. and I have never had any issues since. Yes I have mental health problems but this does not mean that I'm not safe to hold a shotgun or firearms licence. Show them that you are safe and that you have respect for the security of your firearms, and that you have taken every possible precaution that you could take. Do this then why should anyone have any reason to question your reason for holding a FAC licence. Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
The answer with mental health issues is it depends on what issues they are. That said, if it's your wife who has the issues, it shouldn't affect you although you are required through both general safe keeping requirements and also specific notice of her issues to keep your keys inaccessible to her at all times. If she gets a hold of them, expect to be in trouble on many levels. Personally, I'd be careful about letting her shoot as if anything did go wrong, you're the one responsible for allowing her access to your guns even if supervised shooting was otherwise lawful. Never tried to hide it, dress it up or anything else, and it has never been an issue with my SGC (I have no FAC). Best of luck. Quote Link to post

Therefore in the eyes of the police you have admitted committing assault/s....Its why you should always have a solicitor even if you haven't done anything wrong...Been there, got that tshirt... 1 Quote Link to post

Del1810 5
A caution is a slap on the wrist if you had a solicitor he would have been all over it as a breach of process. I'm taking it as you had a domestic incident and would hazard a guess that you did some shouting at someone which according to the law is a common assault and f you out someone in fear of violence hence you were cautioned. As you were only cautioned this will be archived after two years. Anything under three years in jail or sentencing etc you have to wait 3 years before re-applying. Anything over 3 years and it's a life time ban. You shouldn't have a problem with re-applying for a firearms certificate your wife's not applying for one. Bear in mind security. Tell the FEO that you have a safe place for the keys when not in your house, a basic rule and some People have had their license revoked due to people knowing where the keys are hence security is out the window and unauthorised access can occur. Provide a valid reason for applying for one such as vermin control or member of a club. Be open and honest with the FEO tell them what happened and if he gives you the nod then apply.
