Gareth12 225
started my 9month old bull x whipet pup jumping last month or so and I've noticed she doesn't seem as, how do I put it, 'springy' as other dogs I've had. She's around the 21inch mark, and is pretty quick and gets up ok. But as I've been increasing the height she seems to be struggling to clear the fences a little. I've had small dogs in the past that have had no problem clearing same heights as bigger dogs, but this one my heart is in my mouth if she goes over anything with barbed wire. Any ideas on why this could be? Should I leave her mature another couple of months or just let her find her own way over? Quote Link to post
Dave6592 51
I'd personally let the pup keep jumping a height that it's comfortable with for now and increase the height ever so gradually to coincide with her getting older. Just make sure she doesn't hurt herself trying to jump too high as that could make her wary in the future. 1 Quote Link to post
Somewhereyournot 1,117
If she doesn't look confident jumping it, it means she isn't. It's only 9 months, I'd stop pushing it before it hurts itself and sets it back. 2 Quote Link to post
Fieldsporthunter 1,864
Most won't agree with this but my own way is to find a fence dog is comfortable with . . . normally just pig mesh with no barb above and get dog to jump it 15/20 times back and forth none stop in a row for few days running. Won't be long before she finds her confidence. 2 Quote Link to post

Gareth12 225
No Craig she not got the roach back. I'm just gonna ease back a little and leave her develop some more just keep to jumping smaller obstacles for a month or. She's a fair bit heavier built than other dogs I had, first runner I've had with any bull blood and I was a little concerned that may be the reason? Thanks for replys and advice. Quote Link to post
