northern lad 2,292
Same as you mate, wish Id got into it all years ago....always fished since being a kid,and kept ferts/dogs as pets all my life, but only got more involved in hunting in tha last 6 or so years...Im 46 now,in the years since turning 40 Ive an obsession with ferreting, learned to tie my own nets, the dogs have benefited no end from reading a lot of posts on here(both are getting on in years now,but when one goes I,ll be getting my first runner) I already tied my own flies, but know I source my own materials,we eat various things Ive caught at least twice a week This year Ive been offered some pigeon shooting in return for some beating (this will be my first time),and Ive just started having a go at mole trapping (success and failure in equal measure )Theres so much to do/learn and along the way met some cracking lads/ladies,it seems once you've earned peoples trust all sorts of doors/new interests appear. The above probably sounds boring/laughable to some who grew up surrounded by hunters/farmers etc etc I live in Salford 6 Quote Link to post

terryd 8,363
I was mad for it until my early twenties from about 12. Loved it. The wife, kids and work oh and debt lol mostly debt got in the way but started up again a few years back and wished I had never stopped. Its a healthy life style. The buzz from watching animals work is no less than it was thirty years ago. Never forget the look on my daughters face when a rabbit bolted and I went legging it up the hedge row shouting rabbit rabbit. She said why were you making them funny noises Edited November 5, 2015 by terryd 3 Quote Link to post

Accip74 7,112
I'm coming back to dogs after several years away from it, first a terrier & hopefully a runner next year.....I'm 41 now..... .....there are times I regret stopping or wondered how things would of turned out if I'd continued down the same path & I admire these guys that stick at their pursuit for 30-40 years. But I'm glad I've spent my time doing other things tbh, that's what makes this short life interesting imo.... 1 Quote Link to post
